Flaws in controls, camera problems and Knuckles' long ass levels can't stop me from enjoying this charming and fun game.

Every game should have Shadow the Hedgehog in it

oh it's peak... it's just SO peak.....

Super janky but it hits in all the right areas. Even the stupid emerald hunting levels are kinda fun, soundtrack fucks hard too

Sonic adventure 2 is everything a sequel should aspire to be. The levels, bosses, writing, characters, and story are all greatly improved upon in this game. For a start, the levels in this game are all really great. Each one has its own charm to it and city escape is probably one of the best opening levels of all time. My one complaint is the grind railing in the last level, it's often clunky and very difficult to platform on. I liked that Sega cut down the stories from 7 to 2, I think it makes for a nicer game to play and not feeling like it's starting to drag. Another thing that makes the game a bit nicer is the lack of the hub world, in sa1 it was fun at the start but by the time you played the 7 stories it was just a burden to get through. I liked the knuckles/rouge stages more in this game than sa1, not sure why though. One thing I will say is there are TOO many fucking eggman/tails levels, like am I playing a sonic game or am I playing armoured core. I really think they could have cut down on these and put more sonic/shadow levels in. There's only 4 shadow levels in this game which sucks because Shadow's my favourite character (if you couldn't tell already from my previous reviews). This game is also a great introduction to shadow, it shows the kind of character he is, and his backstory and motives with maria which makes for a touching story. Whilst being stupidly easy like the first game the bosses in sa2 are still all really good, it's clear that a lot of thought was put into each and every one of the fights. The music is absolutely superb which is no suprise for a sonic game, each track is extremely iconic and memorable. One complaint I have is that sometimes it was like I was watching a fucking christopher Nolan movie with how atrocious the audio mixing is, half the time the only reason I know what they are saying is because I'm reading the subtitles. Overall, despite some minor flaws sonic adventure 2 is still one of the greatest games ever made and extremely worthy of 5 stars.

It's not good but there is like a glimpse of what good 3D sonic could be.

Two thirds of this game is peak, whil the other one third is ass. Not enough to stop me from loving it. Also the chao garden is still one of the best side modes ever in a game.

CAN YOU FEEEEEEEEEEEL LIIIIFE

Fun game, Ciaos are adorable, but the story was there, and it was pretty hard to follow along

Both a step up and a step down from SA1. SA2 takes away the adventure field for a more linear experience, alongside two paths with 6 characters. Both paths are unique in terms of story and level design, but the characters play the exact same. I definetly found myself enjoying the dark storyline more, however.

This game exudes 2000's coolness. Both the intro and concluding sequences are nothing short of iconic, and Shadow is still just a cool character. The levels are mostly fun, but can be frustrating at times.

I wonder why they hadn't returned to the adventure formula since then, but I seemed to have blocked Sonic 06 out of my memory. Oh...

this is my favorite sonic game despite the jankiness n shit

it really needs a remake with better story and gameplay

I have a really weird and irrational hatred for this game and I'm starting to think it's unironic

Like when I say it's the worst thing humanity has ever made I'm starting to think I'm being dead-ass and it's weird because it isn't THAT bad...

There are SOME positives.... (Now Second) best story in the franchise... great character-work... some levels like City Escape, Metal Harbour, Final Rush and Radical Highway are actually solid and rival the average quality of levels in the first SA game, although none top that game's upper tier levels except MAYBE Final Rush on a good day.

But the bad... Sonic/Shadow style controls way worse than in SA1, Crazy Gadget, Dogshit bosses, cutscenes with walking animation that honestly make me uncomfortable (like what the fuck their limbs are so skinny yet they move too realistically), Crazy Gadget, no hub worlds, worse OST than the first SA, Live and Learn included in that, Crazy Gadget, hunt stages are somehow worse than in SA1, MOTHERFUCKING CRAZY GADGET! THAT LEVEL UNIRONICALLY GIVES ME SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AT JUST THE THOUGHT OF PLAYING IT! I-

sigh

Yeah I think I'm being irrational and over-exaggerative. Probably like.... 3 stars unironically?

I miss the hub worlds of the first game, but the rail grinding is pretty cool. This game's home to some of the most iconic Sonic tracks, in my mind. It's really hard to top Live and Learn and Escape from the City.

Chao Garden sucks in the Dreamcast version and that's a big part of the game's appeal to me so I'd recommend SA2 Battle instead despite its flaws in the porting process.

While yes it has some problems nothing is going to stop me from saying that this is my all time favorite game.

Obviously fantastic, yet I'm not digging the more linear approach. Why does Sonic have a useless af roll attack, and a bounce attack. It get's even worse when you realise that both of those require you to press the same button as the spin dash, which, because of that, takes much longer to do. The Tails and Dr. Robotnik stages are a slog to get through but thankfully I do enjoy the Knuckles and Rouge stages quite a bit.

I despise two-thirds of this game. The treasure hunt and mech stages are miserable, meandering, and have aged like milk spilled onto a summer sidewalk. But it’s all worth it for those Sonic/Shadow stages… breakneck platforming at its finest.

i mean i tried to like it as much as i could, i love the story and character interactions but the game could not keep me invested to save its damn life. its a game i want to love but really cant

This is a mediocre game with occasional 10/10 elements.
