While I often come back to this game, it is still by far the most lacking Elder Scrolls game, mainly because the region itself is bleak, and the nords are uninteresting rather than any true gameplay problem (although this is the least RPG in the entire serie).
The most fun you'll have with it is probably gonna be through modding for better or worse.

My first playthrough of this game was crazy good. I spent probably 500 hours doing just about everything I could as a Khajit with a thief build. Eventually, I had to clear up space on my flashdrive to download something and I ended up deleting my save on accident in the process. Skyrim is a much much worse game when you have to replay it.
Skyrim was simutaneously addicting...and absolutely unreplayable.
Once the mysticism wore off, and id dome pretty much everything of substance i figured i could breathe life into it years later with mods.
but no. because the grind to get to where the modded content IS, wasnt worth it.
Skyrim seems to me a game that you enjoy once very thoroughly.
or thru multiple shorter sessions.
im in the minority of that opinion though.

This game is my ultimate example of how you can believe a game is fun and separately believe it is bad. I'll start with my positive, that being that there's nothing quite like simply walking around the open world from place to place and tackling whatever you happen to come across.
That being said
This game's world is unbelievably dull. Any city the game urges you to stay in past the initial awe of seeing it for the first time quickly becomes a chore to traverse. It becomes easier when you have a quest to do but so many of those are either fight some guys, get an item, or fight some guys to get an item from them that those eventually become a chore as well.
Some individual quests have charm to them usually because of the one in a million chance of one of the characters having charm but the main quest is boring as sin and almost entirely not worth doing unless you want some of the shouts unlocked along the way. Legitimately if you held a gun to my head and asked me to name three Skyrim characters I would be unable to.
It is legitimately a blessing that Bethesda managed to create the community that it did because modding is the thing that truly saves it. Most quest mods I've found feel like they have been made with ten times the passion of any part of this story.
That being said, I am well aware that I shall lose many more nights to this game. If you want to wander around and sometimes fight dragons, play this game. If you want a game with a similar vibe but a great story, play The Forgotten City
