This is a weird one because even though it's the weakest main story in the series by far, Yo Kai Watch 3 is my overall favourite because of the absolutely massive post game with many different powerful Yo Kai to collect. The main story is a completely boring slog and a lot of the new "Merican" Yo Kai have really bad and uninspired designs, but once those credits roll the game really opens up and becomes a fantastic creature collector RPG full of great QoL improvements over it's predecessors for a more smooth and less frustrating experience overall. Also props to Level 5 for releasing one definitive version overseas despite being multiple releases just like Yo Kai Watch 2 in Japan.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the installment that the majority of the fanbase would call the best in the series, though looking at the score I've given it, it's obvious I have some choice words against this game. While bigger than its predecessors in every way, I found the game to be a bit of a cluttered mess as a result. What was impressive in the second game has become overwhelming, like it's content-packed purely for the sake of being content-packed.

My main issue, however, lies in sheer tedium. This might be the most tedious game I have ever played, as many of the chapters have large sections dedicated to complete filler. Key Quests, a welcome addition in the previous game, has gone from a couple fun quests mostly tied to the chapter, to what boils down to actual chores, going from place to place just to pad out playtime.

I think that on a base level, this is a fun game. You now switch between two different characters, one in the old map from the second game, and the other in a brand new, just as big one. The combat has changed for the better, now being grid-based and a lot more interesting. It really is a shame to see such well-designed groundwork pan out this way, and in some ways I understand liking this game more than I do. Would I recommend it? Sure, give it a shot, though I'd advise dropping off it if you're not enjoying chapters 1 to 3, it only gets worse from there.
