Awesome free to play version of magic that is generous with giving you new cards. The mechanics are quick and responsive and online play is engaging. Deck building is great too with wildcards you can exchange for any card of the same rarity. Playing direct challenge with friends is awesome too! I'm really enjoying the recent (as of this review) Outlaws of Thunder Junction and Murders at Marlov Manor sets too.
It sure is Magic: the Gathering against (mostly) randos, alright. I like MtG, even if I don't like everything done with it. Since we're still in a pandemic, this is the only way I get to play it anymore. It's entirely possible to do F2P, but not really if you're trying to be on top of the metas and get exceedingly high in Ranked- unless that's just what you're doing. I like making weird, off-beat decks, so it takes me a while, but I still have plenty of fun.
It's a functional way to play MTG online and it's pretty generous with giving you plenty of cards without spending money. For some reason WOTC wants to do this online-only version of MTG called 'Alchemy' that's totally worthless and bogs down the actual game everyone wants to play and that's really annoying sometimes.
This is the best version of MTG so it's got all the flaws actual MTG has but otherwise, yeah, it's fine.
