I ain't a Star Wars enjoyer, but this is a pretty cool RPG held back by a few wonky systems and the usual old-PC-game jank you'd expect.

Not as great as the sequel, but still excellent.

Pazaak held my time for longer than I'd like to admit back in the day.

An RPG that has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Set in the time of the Old Republic you set out on a journey to help the universe or to destroy it. Such a great game!

The plot and writing were pretty good, but the combat was too easy and I felt like the graphics and environment art were worse than some of the 1990s games I played.

It's a star wars rpg with blackjack.

Greatest Star Wars Story Ever.

I really have a love hate relationship for this game. On one hand this game has an all time great story with amazing companions, great dialogue, and amazing RPG mechanics. But on the other hand this game is really REALLY dated. The combat is painfully boring at best and idiotically simple at worst. There's parts of this game that will force you to search up a guide or go insane trying to figure out a puzzle. But examining the game as a whole I believe the story, quest design, characters, and writing far outweigh the short comings in the gameplay department, and establish this as one of the greatest games ever made.

This is one of those games I use to play all day every day when I was a kid.
I haven't played it lately, but I know for a fact that Bastila is still a baddie.

One of the best pieces of Star Wars media

One of the best distillations of Star Wars into a new story, and just overall a really solid and fun RPG.

A lot of great moments and to be honest probably the best star wars storytelling undercut by a combat system that doesn't really hold up. Great for its time, and worth playing once role-playing through rather than trying to optimize 100%ing. I recommend going with Scout->Guardian and reading the stories of Yudan Rosh.

This is the game that got me into the Star Wars universe as a whole. The console-friendly Bioware formula used in games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect originated here too. Go to location, solve or cause problems, meet entertaining and interesting companions, all with great worldbuilding that adds to the ancient mythos of the Star Wars galaxy.

Now, while the writing is solid for what it goes far, there's plenty of contrivances and conveniences here and there, like your average blockbuster movie. If you're down with the vibe, it shouldn't be an issue. Though at times silly, the situations and dialogue are frequently entertaining. And most of the characters that join you on your journey to stop Darth Malak are likeable.

Upon revisiting, I understood the combat a lot more given that it uses a modified d20 system from 3.5e D&D. Or was it 3e? I don't remember. Either way, I wouldn't say combat is the main draw. It's awkward on consoles and only marginally better on PC. You end up queueing up actions that play out in real time, pausing the game, swapping through active party members, and changing orders as needed. Building your character is the fun part, to be honest, not the fights themselves.

But yeah, this stuff still holds up. I have the distinct memory of enjoying the 2nd game a bit more though. We'll see if that holds up.

Good rpg mechanics, classic star wars planets with alien variety, both light and dark side could be chosen and felt different.

Dialogue was actually interesting in a lot of quest,
companions were mostly nice and made sense, the main story was really cool and the plot twist was surprising.

One of the best rpg honestly.

El buen BioWare. Lo jugué en pandemia.

Fantastic game that sets the standard of what an RPG can be. Seriously just wow. The story takes familiar star wars concepts and shifts them enough to feel completely fresh. I personally love the turn-based d20 combat though I know that can be too slow-paced for some. Overall though this game is a great ride from beginning to end and probably Bioware's best work.
