Bowser's Fury is more than just an extra gamemode they added for the Switch port of Super Mario 3D World. To me this is its own little 3D Mario game and it does a lot of things that I really want to see done again in future games.

I love the approach this game takes with the classic star collection formula. Now the entirety of the "levels" are connected to what would be the hub world in any other Mario game; so now you can just jump from level to level or island to island constantly, while colleting cat shines and the game will never stop to kick you out. It is constant non-stop collect-a-thon and I love it.

The only times this game will stop you are when it is playing a cutscene or when it is finally time to fight Bowser...And speaking of...

Bowser is by far the best part of this whole experience. His design, his musical theme, his overall presence and impact on gameplay. I love that he will come out of his shell every couple of minutes and just land right next to you and all hell breaks loose; suddenly your plans change when this massive beast is constantly attacking you and you have to use that to your advantage.

There is one thing however that makes me happy the most when it comes to this game and few people seem to care about: The power ups.

This is the only 3D Mario game that actually allows you to use the Mario power ups the way they normally work. No alternate versions, no shitty situational power ups that do nothing, no timer bullshit; these are just power ups from 3D World implemented into a 3D Mario game and they work perfectly.

I don't understand why it took them THIS incredibly long to finally implement real Mario power ups into one of these games (And they clearly only did it because they are working off of 3D World), but I am so happy. It just feels so good to be able to save every single power up in your inventory and constantly use each one of them and switch them off on the fly depending on the situation.

Yeah, it's not better than Odyssey, the objectives can get very repetitive and the movement is still pretty basic compared to other 3D Marios...But if this is the blueprint for the next one? Then I am very excited for what's to come.

Quite possibly, the hardest Bowser has ever looked

If this is the blueprint for future 3D Mario then we've got good shit to look forward to

Feels undercooked and like a compromise between 3d world and odyssey that ends up weaker than both. I fear this was meant to be a full-fledged game but they just needed to ship something with the 3d world port.

Relativamente corto pero muy bien ejecutado. Mezcla un mundo abierto con niveles cortos y relativamente lineales sin cerrar las opciones de exploración en ninguno de los dos casos.

A very interesting and great experiment. It's basically a whole Mario Odyssey world but as in a Mario 3D World engine/environment. It works awesomely and I had fun playing this!

Mario Pseudo Sunshine 2.
