Spiderman PS4 is a great Spiderman story built on a really fun gameplay foundation. While it can get a bit repetitive towards the end the core design of the game is focused on you FEELING like Spiderman, which it sells perfectly.
I really like the story of this game. I find the characters to be interesting and relatable and the game does a great job of getting you to care for them. I like that you can see that most of the villains in the game starts off with good intentions but those intentions cause them to do immortal things, it's a nice touch rather than have them be moustache twirling bad guys. This game isn't an origin story and shows us that Spiderman has existed a good while before the events of the campaign and while I love origin stories this approach serves the game really well. I like the collectable back packs you can find through out the city that provide extra context to certain events or are heartwarming or are just funny, it's a great touch.
The gameplay is great as well. I really like the various moves you can pull of as Spiderman as well as the stealth sections with him (even though 90% of the time I go "fuck it" and decide to opt out of stealth for the age old strategy of beating the shit out of them). The stealth section with Miles and MJ suck though. I use to think they were scary but after a while they just become a roadblock that you have to get through to go back to doing Cool Spiderman Shit™. Traversal is also fun as well but I wish there was something more to it, it feels kinda empty when all you have to is routinely press R2 and hold the left stick forward. I know there's special moves you can unlock and all which are nice, but most of them only slow you down so I don't use them unless I'm being to swing.
Also the NPCs in this game suck, they have bad pathfinding, they routinely pop in and out of existence. It's whatever when swinging because you don't really notice but in cutscenes it can break the immersion easily.
The music is great as well. I love the heroic music that plays when zooming around NYC, never gets old. Also Danny Elfman be dammed the theme music for this game is the definitive Spiderman theme. It just works so well.
Suits good. I like the suits they look cool, don't know what else to say here lol. Also Just the facts with JJJ is adorable and the fact that there's a feature to turn it off should be classified as a warcrime.
Overall Spiderman PS4 is just a FUN game that (say it with me now) "Makes you feel like Spiderman".
