I'm just gonna come out and say it, Yakuza 5 is everything that the series should be and what I've always wanted from it. From its moving story and characters, to its depiction of all things both shiny and dirty about Japan, and to the combat and content in a single game, this is the peak of the series. It is a big game and I know it isn't exactly for everyone, but as someone who loved almost every step of this series (YES I also mean Kurohyou and Dead Souls), this game feels like the culmination of everything the fans wanted and needed to bring this arc of RGG to rest. I enjoyed every new thing this game added. I just love how heartfelt and content rich this game is, even if some of it was clunky or a bit overcooked. This is the best RGG has offered so far next to Yakuza 0 and is creeping up to being my favourite of the series and knowing there is so much more in the catalogue of the studio after this has me so excited.
A very hefty game with a lot going for it. The combat feels super refined and fun and each character getting time to shine was great.
