I like it when Peach wears cute little outfits

Is it easy? Sure?
Is it short? Yes
Is it PEACHY? Fuck yeah it is.

pretty darn gosh fun, baby games stay winning

Princess Peach Showtime was a clever, cheerful, and entertaining game for the Switch late in its current lifespan. It’s a fun game aimed towards a younger audience, but my wife and I thought it would be fun to play together. We had a great time, and ended up really loving this little theater world. It took us about 4 days to play through it all, about 2 hours a day after work. It is a little short, but would be perfect length if it was made for a handheld like the 3DS. I can’t help but wonder if the people who made it were originally making games for the 3DS, and with the Switch being both handheld and a home console, sorta ended having to merge a handheld game into working as a home console game as well. It explains the short playtime, and Nintendo must have been so happy to have an excuse to slap a home console price right on top, too. That is really my only complaint, the pricing, but at this point I guess I should know that Nintendo is Nintendo… ugh lol.

Besides that, I had a very lovely time playing Princess Peach’s Showtime! It seemed to really know its audience as my wife was obsessed with seeing Peach in all her different outfits, and even getting to decorate her look when off the stage. I’m a bit more of a tomboy, but I still had fun! I like Peach (totalllyyyy wasn’t in love with her as a kid, what hm? Who said that?) and it was cool seeing her perform different roles when she’s often been typecast as the damsel-in-distress since day one. Plus, her outfits were pretty cute! I dunno, I liked it! But I can understand complaints people have had as well. Check it out if you really love Peach, but otherwise you’ll probably have more fun with something else.

3.5/5

This game had so much potential but it just fell flat for me. This is Peach's first solo game since the controversial Super Princess Peach but there just isn't much content here at all. The content it does have is enjoyable, despite it being extremely easy, but you're probably getting around 7 hours of playtime for a full-price game which, in my opinion, isn't worth it at all.

The concept of Showtime is cool because each world is like a different genre of game, some of my favourites were the more stealth-based ninja levels, the mighty mission levels where Peach becomes a superhero, and the kung fu levels which have awesome combat. However, there are some levels which bring the game down, and every level is mandatory to beat before fighting the final boss so there's no way to avoid them. For example, the detective levels were extremely slow and provided very little challenge to make up for it; you'll spend 10 minutes finishing the level just to feel no satisfaction at all because of how easy it was.

The boss fights were a highlight of this game though, they were surprisingly fun and occasionally provided a bit of challenge. Light Fang is the boss of the second floor and I think he was probably my favourite, and the Madame Grape fight at the end was really cool too.

Overall, I think this game is just fine. I definitely wouldn't recommend paying full price for it but if you can pick it up for cheap it's a somewhat fun game to kill a few hours.

A short and simple game, (maybe a little too simple), that was charming enough for me to find some fun in. It might be asking a little much but I think if there was an actual storyline with depth for the plays I think it would have made the levels a little more memorable IMO. Some other complaints I had were mostly related to a lack of QOL features like not being able to skip dialogue (since you have to replay every level for 100% anyways), and having to fully finish levels to keep collectibles.

Still, I especially enjoyed all the cute dresses to unlock and the boss challenges since they spiced things up a bit. I also love Peach's little catchphrases for her costumes, I stay saying Detective Peach's "AHA!" Overall Super Princess Peach still clears this game.

This game radiates the sort of unpolished nature of a Wii-era princess game, which is extremely odd coming from a first-party Nintendo release, is what I initially noticed. Then, I noticed that it plays that way too. The controls are a bit barebones and don’t feel like careful attention was taken to them, where Nintendo usually puts gamefeel first, this just did not meet the mark. Seeing Peach’s creative costume and animations was the best part of this experience, but the extremely easy and oftentimes bland-within-their-theme levels, and some of the worst Nintendo boss fights I’ve ever played just brought this experience down to the point where I didn’t feel much desire to keep coming back to finish it.

Really fucking funny that Mario has left Bowser off the hook time after time while Peach has ostensibly killed Grape in cold blood and left nothing to bury

Peach's second solo outing is a pretty unique concept, as Peach must perform the lead roles of many plays within a theatre invaded by the "Sour Bunch" hoping to enact their "ultimate tragedy". The story isn't deep, new characters don't get much spotlight and the animation isn't the best Nintendo has put out there.

But damn I do love the stage setting, the way the stages rotate, the background elements held up by strings and the spotlight focusing on Peach, it's all very stylised and when paired with this games very dreamy soundtrack, there's an almost Disney like nostalgia about the whole thing.

Gameplay is very scattered, as Peach must don 10 roles and therefore 10 gameplay styles. It's like a grab bag, we have stealth,
platforming, combat, cake making, a rhythm game, a detective game... the variety is there but none of these styles are particularly deep and never get more complex than the basics.

Each style gets 3 stages, which isn't enough time to flesh them out or introduce much new, and while some styles are better than others, nothing is outstanding.

There are collectibles in every level, they can be fun to collect, but if you miss one the game often locks you into the next section, forcing a replay, which in stages this long and linear isn't very fun.

It's a charming game for sure and the bosses are surprisingly good, but it could do with more consistency - 6/10

As a longtime Mario fan, I expected to love this game based on its theming. Unfortunately, what I got was the complete opposite of that. First of all, the framerate is not on par with the usual 1080p resolution on most Switch games. The price point is WAY too high at the usual $59.99 for this game. Based on the game only being a grand total of 6-8 hours, the price should be about half that at $29.99.

Not only are the framerate, length and price tag bad, some of the transformations lacked for me too. I did love the Mighty and Patissiere transformations, but everything else is average at best. However, the worst outfit in this game has to be Ninja Peach by a long shot. Plus, since it's ridiculously hard to 100% everything in the levels (not being able to go back), there's not really great replay ability and lasting appeal to be found here.

Overall, this game is a far cry from what I expected as a fan of the Super Mario universe. Due to that, I don't feel like you're missing anything special by not playing it. Instead, I recommend Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which also has Peach in it who you can play as. For this game though, I feel like I have to give a 1.5/5.

this game is just too cozy and charming not to love, truly a girlhood experience
