Peak 2D Kirby. Marx is literally me 😭😭

PRIMEIRO DO ANO POHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Um pouco mais fraco do que eu me lembrava originalmente, ia se beneficiar um pouco mais se os jogos fossem maiores ou se fopsse só um jogão ao inves de 7 "mini-jogos", mas ainda sim é um jogasso

91/100

Honestly? A smidge overrated.

Super Star Ultra is a solid remake of a good game. My favourite thing about Ultra is that it feels very "DS-core", despite not even originating as a DS game. The anthology approach just works so much more naturally on a handheld than on a home console, and the bottom screen adds some quality of life enhancements that improve the experience. The game also looks a bit better too, and I enjoyed the CG cutscenes. The sound is worse, but that's minor. I'd still stick with the original if I wanted to play multiplayer, but if I ever want to play Super Star in single-player in the future I'll definitely play this version. It's just a straight upgrade.

However, Ultra still keeps the flaws of the original game and in some ways worsens them. My biggest issue is the helpers. Helpers are a cool idea, but they absolutely trivialize the entire game's difficulty, in addition to just being annoying due to spawning in every time you try to discard an ability. Since Kirby games usually give you many different ways to play the game, I find it baffling that they didn't add an option to turn off the helpers. I think that single feature would've made the game SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I am also annoyed by this game's reliance on recycled content. I already disliked this in Super Star, as Milky Way Wishes and the Arena were already mostly recycled content from the game's other modes, but every single one of Ultra's new modes just exacerbates this. Revenge of the King is the only new mode that has any new level design, but is essentially just a harder Spring Breeze with most of the same bosses. Helper to Hero and the True Arena are just more Arenas. And... Meta Knightmare Ultra... what a horrible mode. I think the concept of Meta Knightmare Ultra's gameplay loop is interesting, but playing through every previous mode in the game as Meta Knight is not it. It's just lazy padding using nothing more than recycled content. It's even more annoying since that means we're playing through Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight, and Milky Way Wishes all over again but this time without the gimmicks that made them unique. Just a thoroughly boring mode through and through. I really don't think Ultra is as much of an improvement over Super Star as most people seem to think, because the new modes just aren't that good or interesting.

Gotta say though, Masked Dedede and Galacta Knight are fantastic. Gotta give Ultra credit for that.

Edit: Turns out, you actually CAN discard your ability without spawning a helper by using the select button, which you couldn't do in the original! Thank you @GalacticSpear for letting me know. This is a huge quality of life feature and I'm so happy it was included. I can now agree with everyone that Ultra is a bigger improvement over Super Star than I originally thought. My rating and overall sentiment stays the same though; just ignore the second paragraph.

The pinnacle of the pink puff. This is my favorite video game of all time and it solidified Kirby being my favorite video game character. The game has many modes which are each a ton of fun as well bosses that can get pretty challenging (For Kirby standards). The level design is great and the music SLAPS, but that just my bias talking (Candy Mountain/ Galacta Knight’s Theme). Controlling Kirby also feels amazing as each copy ability has its own unique moves and animation which makes it satisfying to try out different abilities. The cutscenes also are pretty good for a DS game. It’s a timeless classic and I replay it multiple times per year. This is game will always be ULTRA good in my eyes.

LOS JUEGOS DE KIRBY EN DS SON GOD

It was a fun charming minigame collection, but I wish it could have had a more continuous story.

Best Kirby game alongside Robobot.

To this day I will always say that this is the best Kirby game. Super Star Ultra takes everything Super Star on the SNES did and does it better with improved sprites, music and the addition of 3D cutscenes. New modes were added such as Meta Knightmare and The True Arena, and each playable mode has very high replay value. I found myself constantly going back to this game for short sessions when I was younger, and I still sometimes do so now. Very fun game.

This game, along with the DS Lite it was bundled with, was pre-owned by the son of a family friend. I instantly fell in love with it, and played it to completion several times; this included beating Helper to Hero with every character, and speedrunning The Arena and The True Arena, with my final best times of 06:58:67 and 04:39:94, respectively. Kirby Super Star was already an excellent game, but the remake turned it into a masterpiece, and a must-play for any Kirby fan or DS owner. Should I return to this game, it will not be on the original hardware.

My first Kirby game, and what a meaty one to start with. Has a lot of variety while also still keeping that pure Kirby experience. You can't go wrong with this remake.

I think most Kirby games, even the best ones, feel a bit repetitive by the end. Super Star realizes this and continously shakes up the formula in a way so clever that I'm shocked no game has done it since. Ultra is that but more, with some slightly loose parts tightened up. Played the shit out of it as a kid.

This is surprisingly better than the original with the sole exception of the sprites.

Even though I've never played Super Star Ultra, this game has always been around in my mind. I always wanted it as a kid, but I was never able to get it. And after all this time, I finally was able to experience this game, and god, I loved it.
I love how this game is structured. Instead of one large game, it's split into 8 smaller games, each with fun spins on the general formula. And because of that, I think it's best to structure this review by looking at each individual game.
Spring Breeze is reminiscent to the original Kirby game for me, 4 levels with bosses at the end of each. I found it to be simple, but really fun! I love how you can create buddies based on the copy abilities you can obtain. And for something that feels reminiscent to the original Kirby that has Copy Abilities included is really fun.
Gourmet Race, is as its name implies, a racing minigame. And I found it to be pretty fun! I really enjoyed how it wasn't just "get to the end to win", as you had to collect more food than King Dedede on top of it. It's pretty quick to beat, but I enjoyed the about ~5 minutes it took me.
Dyna Blade is also like other Kirby titles, but instead of going immediately to the next level, you have an overworld. It was really nice too! You can find secrets in levels to unlock copy ability rooms, and sometimes enemies appear on the overworld. It was pretty neat, and the fight against Dyna Blade herself was really fun.
The Great Cave Offensive is the first that really takes things into a wildly different direction. Instead of going through specific levels, you're in one massive level looking for treasures. And I absolutely love it! I tried my best to get every treasure I came across, and that resulted in me finding 33 of the 60 total treasures. There was a lot I didn't find, and that sense of exploration is amazing to me.
Revenge of Meta Knight has such a small change, but that change entirely changes how you interact with the game. That one change is just giving this game a time limit. It creates this sense of tension, as you need to finish the level as quickly as possible. And the bosses, especially Meta Knight, were all really fun. The Halberd was a great set piece too.
In the original Super Star, Milky Way Wishes was the last game you could play. And god, it has such an interesting idea to boot. The fact you can't copy abilities from enemies, and instead you have to find copy abilities in levels is really fun! The remixed ideas of previously fought bosses is really good, and god. Marx is so cool.
Now, originally I was planning to stop here, as I thought the things after Milky Way Wishes was postgame. However, a friend properly convinced me to continue, and god, I'm glad they did.
Revenge of the King is in the best way to describe it, a remixed, and harder version of Spring Breeze. I really like the remixed versions of previously explored levels, and I love the new versions of the bosses in each level too. Though without a doubt, what made this segment for me was the fight against Masked Dedede, the general presentation of it was so good, it really put the cherry on the cake.
And last but not least, the creme de la creme, is Meta Knightmare Ultra. Playing through the levels of Spring Breeze, Dyna Blade, Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight, and Milky Way Wishes, all back to back, as Meta Knight. Meta Knight feels so damn good to control, and the stuff you can use with Meta Points is so cool, though I really only used them to heal. Trying to beat each level as quickly as possible was really fun. And god, Galacta Knight was so damn worth it. Meta Knightmare Ultra and The Revenge of the King easily pushed this game from a 9 to a 10 for me.
I absolutely loved Kirby Super Star Ultra. I think this may just be my favorite Kirby game. I love the unique ideas each segment of this game has, especially the ones added within Ultra. I can't recommend this game enough.

Kirby Super Star Ultra is pretty good. A unique approach with it's anthology-based structure and this allowed it to come up with some pretty creative modes in the form of Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes and both modes kinda make me wonder how a Kirby Metroidvania would work. There's some foundations here for that.

Then there's Meta Knight's Revenge, which was an enjoyable high-speed mode. I actually came quite close to running out of time in some parts. Speaking of high-speed, Gourmet Race is a classic. I did play that one in the original and i feel it controls better here?

Spring Breeze and Dyna Blade are fairly standard Kirby adventures. The former is just a remake of Kirby's Dream Land. So fun but nothing to write home about.

Ultra did add some new modes, mainly Revenge of the King and Meta Knight Ultra. While Revenge of the King is a good "hard mode" version of Spring Breeze (and even introduced Masked Dedede, this whole time i was being gaslit to think that was a Triple Deluxe thing), Meta Knight Ultra is fun at first but it's just redoing the original modes (minus Gourmet Race and Great Cave) as Meta Knight. The only difference is you fight Galacta Knight at the end but honestly i would've preferred it if it was more original.

As a whole, Super Star Ultra is very fun and i wouldn't mind if they did something like this again. Maybe now that the series has fully gone 3D, they could do a "3D Super Star" or something.

There will never be a better kirby game

The best 'classic' Kirby out there which layed in the foundations of a game where the Extras are required to make a 100% completion. Although Sakurai was involved only in the original, the remake is done under a different director that then would go direct the rest of the series starting from this entry on, giving us more mystic and sometimes a bit darker story elements that would contribute to modernize the Kirby series.

The remake borrows heavily from the original and spices it up to feature a more tight and tough experience for those who want more, complete with really unique and charming boss fights and a soundtrack that blows up the surface. I haven't played the original, but the game presents a dynamic physics which, when getting the hang out of it, can turn out to be exciting.

I ultimately had to abandon after i got into the last game (The True Arena) because i wasn't feeling up for the last challenge anymore, but despite that i truly recommend to get into this game as a newbie Kirby fan due to the main gameplay and section elements that were introduced from the original and the remake.

One of the best games on the DS, when i think about ports of video games I wish they were like this, the base game with extra content

My first kirby game and still the best to me

If you don't enjoy this game I don't trust you

This remake basically rebooted the entire series and for good reason.

The original game stood out for the time as the one installment to feel more like an action game than a platformer, with copy abilities geared more towards combat and a wider range of bosses to use 'em on. The games to follow - Dream Land 3, 64, Amazing Mirror etc - would tone down the copy abilities and shift the series back to platforming and puzzle-solving, but Super Star Ultra brings back the action in a big way. If anything this remake is even more fighty than the original, with all four of the new modes - a harder version of Spring Breeze, a Meta Knight mode, and two alternate Arenas - focus more on the combat than ever before, and to the game's benefit.

Going forward a bit the influence this has had on the following decade or so of Kirby games is clear: Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, and Star Allies all follow this game's lead, playing similarly and with fleshed-out copy abilities and dynamic bosses keeping the fighting at the forefront. Return to Dream Land in particular, this game's immediate follow-up, even feels like an expanded take on Milky Way Wishes down to the story beats.

While Forgotten Land seems to be the start of a new direction for the franchise, finally moving away from direct responses to Super Star and Super Star Ultra, the influence of this one game can't be ignored and remains an excellent jumping-on point for Kirby as a whole

i played the ever living fuck out of this game as a kid. lots of fun, and a surprisingly large amount of content.

When I say I would DIE for this game I MEAN IT!!!!!!!!!1! God I have no words, I adore Marx, I adore this gameplay, replayed it like 500 times, SPEECHLESS.

Fuck you Marx, your theme is badass though.

I remember the moment I unwrapped my birthday gift my aunt gave me and seeing the shiny cover for the first time. I was so happy to have a Kirby game again since my neighbor friends stole nightmare in Dreamland from me. I played this game so much trying to 100% it but I could never beat the true area. I finally 100% a few years ago and it was so fun. The remake was definitely worth it. Graphics are better, the gameplay feels better and it's portable! Definitely play this game if you liked the original.

first Kirby game I owned. This shit slapped.
