After 97 finally made the Inputs more lenient, this game goes right back to the strict execution KOF is known for and sadly it will stay that way until KOF 2002.
Very underappriciated Feature in this game is the Random Select Button as it functions differently from most fighting games I've played. Instead of giving you a random character that you're then stuck with until you lose, in this game (and all the KOF games that follow) your team gets randomized after each fight. I think this should be the standart of random select buttons.
While this is arguably the most popular KOF game and more balanced than the previous one I still prefer 97' for its input leniency alone
Love the opening for this one though

Great roster of characters that span across the rest of the Orochi saga, making it a great way to end it. The game's visuals look amazing, with great stage art, animations, and some really impressive sprites for the characters. The soundtrack also features some good remixes and new tracks. The only problem is that sometimes the inputs can need to be a bit too precise, but other than that this is a great entry in the series.
Final score: 9/10
