Incredible, need to return once my brain chemicals open again.

One of the monsters is a Gaming PC with wings

It's hard to come off the coattails of MHW Iceborne, but this entry is really solid, and does a lot of things better than Iceborne too. My main issue with Rise is that while the combat is flashy and fun, I can't help but feel it makes fighting monsters a little less intimate than before. I've put far less effort into recognizing telegraphed attacks because I'll get by just fine through generous counter windows, wire bug attacks, and some beefy ass hits. I miss the environmental hazards and more grounded approach that previous entries had. Weapons are all extremely powerful, perhaps too powerful, with not a single one being notably outclassed.

That being said, I'm still very glad this exists on its own. It's nice to have a Monster Hunter game that's a bit more like Dynasty Warriors, especially with combat so buttery smooth. Many new creatures are so well designed and fit right in with the old, looking at you Magnamalo. World traversal and wirebug recovery moves also take a lot of the sluggishness away that exists in other games, and I think that's a great choice for this more amped up combat style.

While I prefer the approach earlier entries had to combat more, I still really respect this game because it knows exactly what it is. A fun, flashy, sometimes mindless ARPG with some great creatures and weapons to explore. This is a quality game, it's really a matter of preference between this game's approach and World's approach.

a great dlc that adds more monsters, more superbosses, and more content to make your monster hunter addiction stronger and when you defeat the last main story super boss of the game you feel super content with just only anomaly hunts to do to get stronger. turns out if you remove the bad tower defense segments that slowed your game down as well you get a better game overall.

I think there are some things Rise fails in that World really set the standard to but World was my first game. It's a shame to see Apex largely go along with the raids but the raids were quite lackluster to me as someone who often tries to find fun in the things that most dislike and a big Tower Defense fan. Wirebugs are super fun and the game is simple enough for a smooth brain like me to play it but can be engaging if I choose the right weapon. If you don't have access to a PC this is probably your best MH starting point.

vastly improves Rise, i've just gotten a little tired of the game, but definitely a necessary package to experience

As a new monster hunter player who hasn't played most of the older games in the franchise except Monster Hunter World (which i didn't manage to finish) and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP), I found this game really enjoyable. I still play this game time and time again.

Wirebug mechanic is really fun and i don't care if people say it makes the game easy. I can't go back to World after experiencing the fluidity of combat with the addition of this mechanic.

As an entry level game i find it beginner friendly and the difficulty is just right for me to the point it's pretty fun.

The game does need some newer monsters still and I think the recent updates haven't added much to the game in Sunbreak.

Very good
Still has the base game's problems like the lack of detail and stuff like that, but the new skills, movesets and fights really make it way more fun. Fights like Amatsu and Primordial Malzeno are some of the best fights on the franchise imo, and skills like Bloodlust, Berserk, Heaven-Sent, Dereliction, etc. really change how you build your sets and change the game. The power creep is way too strong, just like iceborne, but there's a huge variety with what you can do.
The story is quite good (to compensate for Rise's), for MH standards of course. The war of attrition between Malzeno and Gaismagorm is really cool and holy shit that quest before Gaismagorm is easily the best quest story-wise in the entire series.
The Afflicted Investigations are a fun system with a few problems. They are way too grindy, it takes way too much to get fun quests (you start up with the lower tier monsters), the monsters are always in their 'delirious' state (but that's an issue with normal rise) and they're a pain to look at sometimes.
The Qurio Augmenting system is way too RNG for my liking. What you get on a charm (I've hated that system since base Rise) or on your armor can make or break your intended set, and the final result is completely out of your control.
Going back on that 'always enraged' issue, I've got to say that this is one of the most annoying things in the game. Rajang being gold stops being special if it's always on that state (really, I've had moments where I got it out of its gold mode, and it went right back into that mode literally 3 seconds after).
Another annoying thing is that the system to join a quest is horrible. Joining someone's quest or getting someone to join yours is harder than most of the fights (when they're not eating your whole health bar just for breathing the wrong way).
Inflation is a bitch, even in the world of Monster Hunter we're not safe from it. Everything robs your wallet and takes your kids. Crafting weapons, upgrading armor or the large number of paid layered armors and weapons that are better than the free ones (thank you capcom, very cool). It also affects the numbers in the fight. Monsters have a shit ton of health and deal way too much damage, and to compensate that, the hunters also started dealing insane amounts of damage and now have way more levels on their armor, but then monsters need to have more health and damage to keep up, but then... oh this is a cycle.
I shit talk a lot but I have a lot of fun, even after losing an account with 200+ hours, I started a new account, passing through the horrible early game to get to the part that i.. dislike less. Jokes aside, very good expansion, some faults but I can overlook those since the rest is just way too good.

I see a Monster Hunter, I play a Monster Hunter for 300+ hours. Incredibly fun, fast paced take for the franchise that I love while still hoping it's a detour. Looks wonderful for a switch game too, the RE engine is magic.

Monster Hunter Rise is as solid as ore, albeit as dry the Sandy Plains as the base launch of World was. However, it makes up for it in the post-launch support, as all of these games do. Props to Capcom Division 2 for the foundation they've laid for the series and improved on.

Kamura's Feudal Architecture, the cobble-stone paving, the colorful Sashimono banners all add to the overall aesthetic of the game, one that's greatly appreciated and pits 1-to-1 with Pokke Village as a favorite. This home-yness incremented by the still 1-dimensional but not as vapid cast as the last game cast of this game, the 2 𝑀𝒾𝓈𝓉𝓇𝑒𝓈𝓈𝑒𝓈 Hinoa & Minoto being best gals, fite me. All of it lends toward the best mood and art direction in the series, beating out the rather bland, at least in my opinion, I know I know jalapeño popper take, jurassic direction of World that MH7 (not 6, fuck y’all, Rise is 6!) will also have.

So too are the maps teaming with with life thrice over, of all trophic levels. Life that gives to an ecology that feels alive, even if it isn’t truly alive. All beset with that life not just being set-dressing, but aiding/ailing in moment to moment gameplay. Stone Lizards that drop Spheres, stat boosting Spiri-birds, Great Izuchi calling on a pack of Smaller Izuchi to gank you dank swords style, or Icy Tundras where you'll face upon Lagombi who'll lead you into a pit infested with those STINGY BASTARDS... gripe aside.

Herein, you're to be fixated on the staple gameplay loop of Monster Hunter that you either couldn't get into or never got tired of, no in-between, slaying monsters and accruing all manner of Pelts, Fangs, Horns, or other bodily features via an actually well balanced RNG Loot system that's woven with an Upgrade system that's divided by Armor Sphere spending and deck allotting, usually to three slots per armor variant max all available at the Smithy after certain HR levels are reached, all while new Silkbind moves for your weapon of choice open, Camp-grounds from a previous expedition are opened, you deck your buddies out with the same set as you or a different set hey maybe you're into fashion hunter, no knock against ya, and they push you along to grind s'more.

Oh right Silkbinds, so it's a Feux-Hunter Art system where you get one or two special moves depending on what class you're into, which changes up gameplay lots and adds more depth and breadth to a game that already has it in spades. As an Insect Glaive main I really like that I get to do a spinny move that finally looks different than the spinny move I've been accustomed to since the damn thing was introduced in 4, I was stuck with the Tetraseal for a while and the range sucks but Diving Wyvern's a fucking GODSEND, AAAAND the Kinsect recall that nets you two buffs instead of one kind of broke the game in a really good way for me. Can’t speak for mains of other weapons as each one has a meta and I only dabbled in such stuff like the Hunting Horn and heard from long-time mains that it got downgraded, but point is the game has sooooooooooo much player choice it's insane

And as an Impromptu bookend to this review since I'm a bad writer and don't know how to review games, the game has soooooooooo much player choice it's insane… But no really, give Monster Hunter Rise a go. It’s never been a better time to get into the franchise, which is coming from a vet that started at Tri on the Wii back in the olden days. With such a polished, streamlined, and fun game that honors the series legacy, it's a hardy ass recommendation from me, a nobody on the internet. Buy the game basically, it's really good, and it applies to every monster hunter game ever too, this is a review of every game in the series if you look at it that way. Grab three buddies and go slay a Rathalos or something. Thanks for reading if and when you do or did.

My first starting point into the Monster Hunter series and have been hooked ever since! Every monster is unique and have a certain dance that makes engaging them with multiple weapons extremely satisfying and fun. Purchased on Switch launch day and have still been grinding and joining hunts to this day and hope to join even more in the future.

Very fun Game, very challenging and a good grind

soooo goood crazy how much this dlc saves the base game

Just like Iceborne for MHW, MHR Sunbreak pushes MH Rise to another level

decent expansion, subsequent updates not so much. qurio research can suck my dick

Takes what really worked in MHR and expands upon it, really solid expansion overall

9.5/10

This game is so much better than MH World it's actually insane

just as long as the base game but still with a undeniable charm, i'm digging capcom basically making a new game and selling it as dlc of the base game, shoutouts to my buddy for carrying me through G-Rank or master rank as they say now, just like in the base game i still had i blast making builds and even grinding at times.
there is just something so satisfying about monster hunter's difficulty that feels right .
another shoutouts for the mexican community who's still keeping the game alive along with the korean peeps.
this was a Great DLC

Loved learning dual blades throughout the base game and this expansion.
The music is immersive and the design of the monsters are amazing.
What prevents this game from getting a perfect score is the grind gets very steep and in a world where all my friends are playing live service games, its hard to stay committed to the grind when my time is divided between multiple titles

damian be like DUUUUUUDE ITS SO MUCH BETTER yeah sure bud SURE (i dont believe you)
plus point five points because Primeape is in this game (Malzeno)
