Papo & Yo is a puzzle adventure game where you play as a Brazilian boy named Quico, who is hiding from his alcoholic father at the beginning of the game. While hiding in his closet during one of his father's drunken rages, clutching his favorite toy, a robot doll named Lula, Quico discovers a strange chalk mark on the wall, and touching it, finds himself taken to a dream-like world.

The dream world is incredibly whimsical and fascinating, and it turns its Brazilian environments into a dream where Quico can manipulate objects, enter portals, and use special panels. With special panels on objects, he can push, pull, and move objects with ease, moving houses in place and pulling staircases out of houses. Lula also becomes animated and helps guide Quico through the world.

Quico eventually meets a young girl named Alejandra, who doesn't understand him or his intentions and attempts to slow him with puzzles.

Quico eventually comes across a creature known as Monster, a massively strong beast with razor-sharp teeth. Quico sees it as his friend, although the creature is powerful and has strength unknown to him.

Throughout the game, Quico sometimes has flashbacks of things that have happened and bad memories of his father. These can be very haunting and sad, but are quite the wake-up call to what addictions can do, and the damage that an addicted parent can do to one's child.

Papo & Yo is an incredible game so far. The game is very whimsical and detailed, and the gameplay so far is quite fun, although certain puzzles can be a bit difficult. Its visuals and graphics are very nice as well, and breathtaking to see. Its exciting and beautiful soundtrack suits the game very well, and I like how they often kept the theme true to traditional Brazilian music. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys puzzle games and anyone who enjoys whimsical game worlds. ^.^

Značně osobité brazilské vyrovnání se s otcovským komplexem; a to v podobě hlavolamové plošinovky o klukovi, který před svým alkoholem čpícím násilnickým otcem utíká do svébytného světa dětské představivosti. Přímočarost a neexistenci složitějších logických puzzlů nelze vyčítat, jelikož to není to o co tvůrcům šlo. A to o co jim šlo se daří zprostředkovávat výtečně.

Eu amei jogar isso quando era criança, a ambientação desse jogo é foda demais, o jeito que a coisa flui também é bem legal.

A cool game with lot of fun elements added. I exactly don't remember the story but I enjoyed a lot in my childhood, Might replay if I have some time.

cool ideas and ambience, but everything else is so poorly made, like the story is just throwed at your face, expecting you to feel sad

my mom bought me this game and wanted me to like it so bad but I never did 😭

Joguei quando criança enquanto eu assistia Venom Extreme, muito pika preciso rejogar.

Although I wish there were more to the puzzle solving, it's a serviceable set of mechanics for such a small game. Primarily my frustration with the game is the way it represents abuse. While I recognize that the point of the story is to create the tension between empathy for someone you love and discomfort with someone who is hurting you, my experience felt that it was enabling the cycle of abuse rather than escaping it. I like the ending, but I think the story sends the wrong message.

When Brazil comes to you instead.

Really, it's a good puzzler. Lot of soul went into this with a nice Neverwhere reference.

this is one i had previously only been exposed to via cryaotic's playthrough of this and one of the first things that ever consciously attracted me to the idea of 7th gen games. This was a very long time ago and since then that guy probably got outed as a pedophile or something idk.

Anyways its one of those artsy indie platform puzzle games, back when they had any semblance of awareness, i certainly would put this above anything to come out of cringe ass nae nae california, the environments are extremely comfy, they resonate with me a lot in their colorful but ghetto look, and the spoken dialogue is subtitled dadaisms, the music is just phenomenal, its dynamic, a bit simple melodically but very pretty with very well thought out instrumentation, gameplay and story were nothing to write home about, its no limbo really but still very soulful, a bit cheap looking, as always it runs on the bitch ass unreal engine.
so the kid basically, his dad is like robin williams' smoochy and he hits his kids, fill in the blanks. Its very understated, it doesn't meander or stop you to explain everything and its mostly silent, it goes for the show don't tell approach which so many 5 deep 3 u kusoge these days seem to have a gag reflex over. It does however struggle to concede monstro any kind of threatening presence as a gameplay element, as a player you'll be happy to know the companion ai is very co-operative and rather gentle, very scripted which kept the game from becoming at all stressful, it ultimately harmed the depiction the story was going for but eh, I think the bar is set very low as it is for these types of games so for my money this kicks a lot of ass in its department, please check it out if you're into this sort of thing.
