It's like every part of the game was made by a different guy. The music, presentation and writing was given to God himself, while the gameplay and battle mechanics were given to a group of New York sewer rats.
Has some of the most memorable moments of any game I've ever played, but I don't think I'll ever return to it because I'd rather watch paint dry than do those god awful sliding puzzle battles.

Origami King is so strange to me because it felt like a downgraded color splash, the battles are fun and engaging because of the new wheel mechanic but still pointless, the writing this time around felt like it was missing something and the areas you go to don’t feel special or memorable. Story was interesting and has its high moments but feels pointless by the end because the ending is terrible. Good music, good gameplay and meh story
In my opinion, the best in the series. The turn tables makes it stand out from other RPG's, which mostly all have the same mechanics. The best part of the game is probably how each NPC in the game has their own funny dialogues to read. I would recommend going back to talk to all the NPC's after beating the game to see what they have to say
i played the first chapter like a year ago after dreading touching it since I got it for Christmas the year it launched and I don’t think I’ve ever been so demotivated to continue a game. I’m happy for you if you enjoy modern Paper Mario but I’m hoping that if Mario RPG remake does well that it will incentivize Nintendo and Intelligent Systems (or whatever dev team they get) to go back to what worked before
A pleasant suprise since i wasnt really expecting much from this game. Lovely cast with some nice new interactions from the old (kamek and bowser jr esp).
Didnt vibe with the ring/system as much. and whole the elementals are flashy and cool it felt lacking interaction wise. i also found the some of the boss designs to be...kinda dull sadly.
On the other hand i did enjoy finding all the toads mostly to see what they'd say. Alot of the dialouge is really funny. The enviroments are also a treat.
I didnt bother trying to get 100% mostly bc i wanted to go out of a high note rather than waste time trying to get all the throphies and be frustrated
Not my fave paper mario game but still a solid one.

This game was clearly dealt a bad hand, so I respect this game for what it is. But what it is isn't all that exciting. I like that they basically repeat the "main partner has an attachment to the antagonist and the both die at the end" from spm, except way less impactful than that game. The battle mechanic is horrible, it feels so tacked on and unnecessary. Nothing about the game improves with it, except the epic as shit final boss. Overall, it's a very mixed bag. But I believe they did the best they could given the supposed limitations.
This felt more like a true Paper Mario game than the last couple of entries did, but the battle system wore out its welcome pretty quickly (although I had so many coins it wasn't hard to just pay-to-win my way through it when I didn't feel like engaging with it). The story and world are really good, though, and I liked the characters, new and old, a lot. And it did retain the old Paper Mario humor which I appreciated.

Literally one of the most fun and creative games I have ever played. The different ways in which the battle system is influenced by enemies is always genious. The paper aesthetic looks stunning and every soundtrack is fantastic. This is absolutely the best game in the series. Just such a wonderful and hilarious adventure.
