Not completely satisfied with this especially after how long it took to release. I was a fan of the original game, it was a cool narrative with limited but interesting gameplay mechanics and a great atmosphere. This sequel does a phenomenal job increasing the quality of those visuals to some of Xbox’s best yet, but everything else takes a few steps back. Combat is less engaging and limited to select scripted encounters, and there’s not much else going on outside of walking down a straight path to the next beat. I would have liked more gameplay improvements and additions rather than to have everything stripped away. The direction of the story didn’t seem too strong for me either, taking too much focus away from Senua while we follow the footsteps of new and uninteresting supporting characters.

Decent but not great. Aside from the numerous framerate problems I had on PS5 especially when entering new areas or hitting a new boss phase, there’s little parts of both the souls-like gameplay and the 3D platforming that let it down. Too many of the game’s combat mechanics are locked behind late skill-tree unlocks too which can make it feel kind of awkward and clunky early on and somehow it still never allows you to attack after a dodge. Cute characters and a pretty fun soundtrack, but just not exactly for me overall.
