Parting is such sweet sorrow. The Club Penguin of my childhood deserved better than the treatment it was given by Disney.

I loved this game, and I am willing to go elsewhere to get an even better experience. For free.

Early Club Penguin easily gets an 8 or 9 out of 10.
Late-stage Club Penguin was really bad, but luckily it didn't entirely taint it... just a large portion.

Banger. Disney were cowards in the latter half of the decade.

It's nice to fall asleep to

Sure, this game is a banger but at the end of the day, its still an unfinished game and this prevents me from putting it higher

now's your chance to be a big shot

I 100% completed this game without save states and I have to say it: this is a very impressive rom hack, especially for a hack that came out in 2014.

Super Mario Bros. 3Mix is one of the best 2D Mario offerings currently available. If you think the New Super Mario Bros. games are too easy, or prefer the physics of older Mario platformers like I do, I highly recommend this game. While it has a couple of bad levels (the only one that really comes to mind is 8-2), the vast majority of the game is well designed, and constantly introduces cool and fun mechanics.

Coming from the perspective of 100% completion, Super Mario Bros 3Mix can be either as short or as long as you want. Most levels are not very long, but the games longevity is significantly increased by the return of a lovely collectable from the New Super Mario Bros. series: Star Coins. Hidden throughout every level are three Star Coins that you have to go out of your way to find. This means you'll be spending most of your time thoroughly combing every level for them if you want to see everything this game has to offer.

(SPOILER ALERT, SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU CARE ABOUT THAT) If you collect every Star Coin and beat the game, you are presented with one final challenge: various Comet Challenges have been scattered across every world, and you must complete all of them to unlock the final world. The final world is a fantastic send-off to the game, with much appreciated references to Super Paper Mario. It's a fantastic reward for getting every other collectable, and I personally thank Southbird for having a better 100% reward than most actual Mario games.

The game has a lot of interesting ideas, and tackles them with gumption. Being a very ambitious rom hack, however, leaves many areas of the game unpolished. The most noticable one is the music; the main melody of many songs get constantly cut out by the sound effect for jumping or collecting coins. While I understand this is a limitation of the NES, putting the melodies on sound channels that aren't the jump and coin ones could have fixed this ever-present issue. The game's collision also frequently breaks with enemies clipping through walls, floors, and ceilings. This seems even more frequently if the games framerate drops, which is something that happens with frustrating frequency.

Although this game can be frustrating, it's hard to stay mad at it too long because of how good many of the levels are. Almost every new idea the game has is well executed and fun, and even if it didn't rock my world the entire time, I still recommend the game to those looking for a new 2D Mario game that isn't too easy, but doesn't bust your balls.

So I don't really have any GBA games. The only one I have is Final Fantasy V Advance, but needless to say, I've never played the original Superstar Saga, so I'm reviewing this as the game itself, and not a remake. From what I've heard, it's extremely faithful, and that's what I'll leave it at.

The game's story centers around a witch from the Beanbean Kingdom, named Cackletta, stealing Princess Peach's voice and replacing it with some, quite literally, explosive commentary. Bowser, who had attempted yet again to kidnap her, decided the princess' new lexicon would wreak havoc on his castle, so he takes Mario, and a reluctant Luigi, along to the Beanbean Kingdom to set things straight. Meanwhile, all the plot-pertinent shenanigans ensue.

The story is silly and doesn't take itself seriously, which is to be expected for this series. Nonetheless, this game is bonkers, and at least to me, some of the antics you engage in are more compelling than the main story itself. Heck, every location save for 4 is named after a synonym for laughing. If you were expecting a tale of melodrama, deep character arcs, and intrigue, by all means look elsewhere. This game doesn't offer that at all.

Speaking of locations, the Beanbean kingdom is a cool place that is largely different from the typical Mushroom KIngdom fare. In hindsight, I feel that it's a bit small, with very little to do outside of a few minigames, and 1-2 sidequests that are worth doing. However, an effort was made and I respect that.

This is a really solid RPG, but the one reason I can't rate it any higher is because of the combat. It's not bad. It's actually really good. I just don't like it. Introduced in Super Mario RPG on the SNES was hitting buttons at the correct time while attacking and getting hit to increase damage dealt and reduce damage taken respectively. It was snappy and fun. Paper Mario did a similar system, and it was also good. Mario and Luigi does it too and improves upon it by being able to possible negate damage and counterattack, and while it's good, I just don't care for it. Attacks that you do aren't so bad, but enemy attacks take a short while to get through at times. Not all attacks are slow, but the ones that are really annoyed me. I want quick, snappy combat that doesn't waste my time. However, in this game it's kinetic, but slow, and it irritates me.

That being said, the game's still great. The combat is far from terrible, it's just not my cup of tea. The story is silly. And on top of that, the game is pretty short. I actually left my 3DS on and open for two days or so, so I don't know how quickly I beat it, but it's definitely not the 73 hours my save says. I'd estimate 20 at max, and that's generous. I recommend picking it up.

Also, for Bowser's Minions, I heard it's terrible, so I didn't really bother with it.

8/10 - It's a great game, hindered by some personal preferences.

SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL BOSS: Cackletta's Soul that bad. The 1 HP thing is only a problem if you don't have a max nut or a speed of 90+. Plus, in this version, you can retry from there without having to redo the Bowletta fight

This game is fucking stupid I hate it so much. 10/10.

cant wait for the group delusion of "the originals were better than this" to end
