Don't be fooled, this is an evil game. Fun, but mean, Cute, yet cruel.
This is essentially a speedrun 3D platformer based on a character who's default movement is rolling on the ground. That alone has a gigantic impact on how you platform. You gradually build up speed and soon enough it gets harder to make tight turns. But this game has a perpetual time limit for every level, so you need to master the game feel in order to beat it. The time limits do vary from "A non issue" to "I slightly bumped the edge and I have to restart". And if you think there's a way to turn off the timer... there is. I personally didn't use that option, though I kept on the difficulty that had checkpoints (yes you can turn off checkpoints if your insane).
Jokes aside, the timer adds a lot to the challenge and fun to the game. Since you're in a rush your encouraged to find as many shortcuts as you can, and there are plenty of shortcuts. You can use your tongue to grapple onto literally everything and pull yourself towards it. This alone allows you infinite wall jump up any vertical wall and can even jump out of the pull-in to make even trickier jumps (which becomes a requirement later on). You also have bounce move for a higher jump, making this simple moveset have quite a bit of complexity.
What I feel is the biggest factor to this games difficulty is the precision it can require while under pressure. You will be rolling down extremely thin platforms at high speeds or swinging on floating platforms as fast as you can as lava rises. Unlike a ton of platformers, there's no easy way to micro adjust yourself. No hover, no double jump, no spin jump, no mid-air hat throw; closest you get is using your tongue to latch onto platforms that you barely miss, which requires pretty quick reflexes. So yeah, even with disabling the timer some levels can give you a lot of trouble. The only ones that won't are the boss fights, which are honestly not that difficult or good at all.
I do like the customization a lot. Able to buy hats, dyes, and clothes for your little lizard dude. You get coins from the levels and those coins also give you an extra second on the clock, and yes they use coins in the way you think they would. Mercifully restarting a level is also lightning quick, so you barely linger on your failures. You also only die from bottomless pits, lava, crushing, or the time limit. Every enemy merely halts you for a few seconds. It's honestly the worse in later levels.
I think I stressed enough that this a pretty difficult game, with some secret levels that made me go "You want me to do what?" It was fun, but I wasn't ready.
