A totally inane retread of Until Dawn, that improves on nothing. Despite a few characters that edge on likeable (Dylan and Kaitlyn's actors seemed to care about the product), it cant save this being a 9 hour slasher movie with a ridiculous amount of filler and messing around. The game edges you for 8 whole chapters before blowing everything in the last 90 minutes. Worst yet, there's still boring small talk and obvious reveals in the last bits!

The dialogue, animation and acting is the most inconsistent in a AAA game yet. Emma and Jacob are super annoying, the former being treated to some very uncanny mocap and ridiculously bad dialogue. Ryan's actor gives the worst performance I've seen since the anime PS2 era. The scares are also notably absent, despite some very gruesome deaths. (that the game tries to make you not want to see??)

All in all, aside from some decent kills all packed at the end, and a few good actors (being given shit dialogue), The Quarry is a boring slog with bad pacing. So much meaningless, trite dialogue that slowly spills out of the characters with extensive pauses between them. So many walking bits that serve zero purpose, and add no horror or comedy.

If the Quarry was cut in half, it could be a decent Halloween romp. But the sheer amount of yawn inducing filler makes it impossible to replay. Last thing to add, only 4 characters have any plot impact, the rest only exist to provide early kills. So all that grueling setup doesnt pay off. The ending sucks as well compared to Until Dawn's interviews. The most damning part of it all? YOUR CHOICES DONT MATTER. There's like 8 decisions out of 100 that have any lasting effect, and they're either super easy to screw up or ultra obvious.

The Quarry being a 70$ "movie game" missing all the elements of a good movie is the reason why gaming is a joke to trained critics.
