Ah yes, the PC Engine. An obscure platform I was proud of knowing when I saw the medium as a sport because of its badass shoot em ups but which doesn't have anything special when it comes to gaming as an artistic medium, specially to those who don't know japanese. Its only RPG officially translated to english was a forgettable and generic fantasy adventure and a lot of other stuff you could find to indulge yourself was already done better on other platforms except for the epic music that came out of the games that used the CD expansion.

Take this example here. Riot Zone is just a Final Fight clone with similar visual presentation and story but which, unlike the other well known clone, Streets of Rage, controls in a very stiff way and the soundtrack, while expertly produced by T's Music, can't hold a candle to the compositions of Yuzo Koshiro. Moreover, an actual port of Final Fight would come out for the Sega CD expansion with this level of musical fidelity, making Riot Zone the loser from all three games.

It's interesting that you don't find food laying on the street like those two, instead gaining it when dropped from random enemies, and you don't refill your health after each level, making it more realistic. I would complain about that fact, but the game is pretty easy as it is. I would rather have more boss battles which aren't repeating the formulas from Final Fight though, like the dual boss criminal couple from Level 1 which interact with each other to make for attack moves for example, giving them more characterization than your typical bad guys.
