The Legend of Zelda is one of my favorite series, and this first entry does a pretty good job at originating the stuff I like about it. You have an overworld that connects different areas and features plenty of secrets to discover, dungeons that form the main highlight of the series, and various other things that future games will take and build upon. I expected the first to be pretty rough, but it actually ended up being really enjoyable despite not having as much polish as future Zeldas.

Probably the only issues with the game come from the somewhat small variance of enemies, and the overall basic nature of the dungeons. The bosses are also pretty simple and are reused a few times. It does make it interesting to see though how future Zelda games have improved upon the formula this sets, I greatly love the foundation and think this was worth playing all the same. Some required parts might be a bit obtuse to solve without a guide, so I'd recommend one if stuck on something.
