Portal 2 takes everything that made Portal (2007) great, while adding far more substance. Portal 2 has incredible humor and wit, and, while it’s not meant to be laugh-out-loud funny, the jokes have creative layers that illuminate just how incredible the writing is. The puzzles are leveled up too; the first game tended to focus on the portal gun itself, whereas Portal 2 often has the player alter the environment around them with the gun and use physics to overcome the challenge. The new slimes are a brilliant addition that fit the world, elevate the game’s depth, and have intuitive physics. All of it topped off by one of the most brilliant, bombastic endings to a video game ever.
