Bioshock could be considered a largely successful console friendly modernization of System Shock 2 in a new setting for a new generation.
It kept the action, horror, audio logs, morally ambiguous characters and themes of science going too far while also introducing some new ones of its own. It's also way easier to get into thanks to a modernized control scheme, graphics and simplified mechanics in general.
I believe the attempt to implement a morality system was less successful because it has the nuance of a brick to the head, but besides that the writing is decent.
This remastered version looks a bit better and it introduces a new difficulty mode that's completely unbalanced. I enjoyed watching the interviews and concept art that were included with this release as well.
To conclude, Bioshock is pretty good. It's an easy recommendation to most people as long as they don't mind shooting magical junkies.
