Kind of a strange mesh of a game - pretty much taking the over-the-top arcade style action of the first game, and expanding on it by turning it into a tactical shooter game with stealth based elements in it. Really, there's just so much done in this game and it doesn't quite work as points with just the clash of the over-the-top story presentation and more realistic elements like with how Mullen's now walks pretty slowly and fires fully automatic weapons really inaccurately.

Still, the one thing this game is really good at comes from the gore mechanics - which are a step up from the previous game, and there's something weirdly satisfying about popping someone's head off with a shotgun in this game. The action itself is pretty satisfying when it doesn't occasionally break down every now and again - and the plot is absolutely daft, revolving around some sort of genetically engineered virus which terrorists now have the holds of.

It's not a great game but it's a fun little experience, and I especially got a kick out of the random mission generator mode - which was surprisingly inventive for something made during the early 2000s. But this is still an example of something that tries too many things at once and doesn't quite succeed, but is a fun game nonetheless.

Oh, and the multiplayer in this game is really fun too. Somehow there were still people actively playing this game well into the early 2010s (although I'm not sure how populous it is now).

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who appreciates the random mission generator in SOF2. It's really quite impressive for the time.
