2014

Started this early in the Closed Beta, probably right after Guan Yu came out. Originally it didn't have Oceanic servers and I had to acclimate to the 300 ping NA servers (which I think I did pretty well). It got easier to lead shots with my mains Anhur and Aphrodite, but at that ping I couldn't even dream of playing melee characters due to my attacks not registering even if I'm literally on them. Since the addition of Oceanic servers I fully invested and played this a lot and got quite good at it. The current state of the game is abysmal though in Australia, not a single queue ever pops so I haven't actually played for over a year at this rate. Every time I remember to try the game out, or a new god comes out that I want to play (miss thing Tiamat my Assyrian zummy) I have to either relearn NA ping or just sit in Jungle practice wasting away. Bring back multi-queueing and maybe Oceanic servers can be utilized but currently the game is just disappointingly unplayable.

This game's story was much more interesting to me as it focused mainly on the original areas of Azeroth. Originally I hated this game because at the time I was a Tauren main (having switched from Night Elves late in WotLK), and seeing my boy the Barrens getting butchered like that was not the tea. As a druid main, the Mt Hyjal area was where I would spend most of my time and that kind of turned me around on the idea of it being a bad expac (as well as all the worse expacs coming out after making this good in comparison). Dungeon finder made for a much easier experience as someone who didn't have a guild and just levelled using quests.

I didn't end up playing through The Burning Crusade while it was current so WotLK was my reintroduction to WoW after playing the original as a child. As much as I didn't care about the story and the Norse themes of the world we were in, being able to level my first character to max level and fully experience druid gameplay was amazing. I remember so many times being knee deep in elite level enemy territory just because I finally learned Prowl.

A truly fascinating experience at the time even if I didn't get very far into it. Darnassus still brings back plenty of nostalgia because I spent a lot of time just exploring the gorgeous (at the time) forests of Teldrassil.

Less of a game and more of an experience. The visuals, the music and the novelty in the game make it truly wonderful to play through. As someone who loves co-op games, having an unexpected partner dropping in to your game just to tag along was a welcome surprise. The game becomes less about getting through the objectives and more about staying with and trying to communicate to your new friend.

I'm sure the game's battery is long dead but she was cute while she lasted!
