Genre: Creature Collection

When it comes to Yo-kai Watch the story isn't that engaging but it does fit the vibe of the series. It does make sense that it's a bit souless as this series was designed as an IP instead of as a game they desired to make (source). The gameplay is honestly pretty innovative, it can get a little fatiguing if you're grinding but that isn't a requirement in this game at all. They also took care to add an internal narrative logic to navigating the world which I think is quite charming. Speaking of charming the visuals are incredibly appealing and are a major part of my love for this game. The yo-kai designs are fun and out there which really showcases the unique personalities of each Yo-kai. As for the soundtrack it is pretty forgettable but I think that's a positive honestly, it never takes you out of the sleepy little burg that is Springdale. Finally when it comes to how Yo-kai Watch compares to other Creature Collection games I feel is has a leg up when it comes to team building and training the Yo-kai you've collected but falls short in the actual collecting mechanic. It's just a bit too random and really discourages people from collecting all of the Yo-kai in the game. Regardless I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for this game.

Wank ass narrative. Middle class white guy talks about how hard his life was and no one understood him growing up. Total wank.

Held back by a poor translation and an awkward pacing. The story could have been incredibly engaging if it was a bit more clear what the story was trying to say.

Class of '09 is a game that will not resonate with men, It's for the girls. As a woman who is has always participated in mostly male spaces in both my hobbies (gaming and gym) and my studies (comp-sci). This game while hilarious resonated with me so much.

I don't think many guys really see how differently you get treated. Even men who seem to fully accept as a friend can have ulterior motives or other you in different ways and I think a lot of the humour in the game relates to that. I found it funny even as someone who was heavily bullied in high school because a lot of what they're alluding to is correct.

I see a lot of the other reviews getting put off by the pedophilia jokes but tbh that's the reality as a woman. First time I was cat called I was 12, first time a classmate put his hands on me I was 13, and all of that just taught me to be open to getting groomed by older men at 15. It's the experiences some women face and I think the jokes are very cathartic for me in that 'you have to laugh otherwise you cry' sort of way. I don't say all this for any other reason than expressing why I enjoyed this game and that I think we should be able to talk about our experiences without it being taboo.

In total I thought the game was witty and towed the line incredibly well. It's not for everyone but it is for me. I think it requires a lot of nuance to fully unpack the game and I enjoy that they don't vilify men by portraying the fact that the main character is a sociopath and a terrible person who makes decisions out of her own self interest with little care for who it affects.

Everyone is horrible, it's funny and it's based on real experiences that people have. I don't think these ideas need to be mutually exclusive.

Anyway it's peak.

An idle game that gives you very little engagement. Really missed the mark.

Absolutely struggled with the battle system. I could see myself enjoying the story but there's something about battling in a 3d grid that I do not vibe with.

Give me a tutorial that's understandable I feel so fuckin stupid playing this. Like this game is for someone's autism and it isn't mine.

Not much to say, refer to pong review.

1972

It's kind of like an ADHD fidget toy.

I hated playing it doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's the progenitor of lotsa video games and that's kinda hot and I like naming my silly lil caravan people dumb names like pepis and hot woman. Makes me wanna touch grass because I get so sad when my family dies of syphilis (and I'm not talking about the greek mythological figures). Thank you :)

TBH this game is such a comfort for me. So many games are just a bit too stressful or ask too much of my focus as a person with adhd but the systems in this game are the perfect unwind. I usually play it while I watch TV which may seem criminal to a lot but it works for me.

It's a below mid-tier game. There's really not much to add as I think most other reviews hit the nail on the head.

I was trying very hard to place what felt off about this game and I think it's the fact that that the narrative largely feels out of your hands. It sort of drops you in with little context as a story would but then the mechanics seem to be at war with allowing you to follow that narrative.

It's so low effort and clunky, there's MMOs with less money behind them that deserve your time over this.

OST goes crazy and the control scheme makes me go crazy
