As a 3D Mario game that tries to go back to basics while keeping a sense of inventiveness, it's the most well-rounded and solid it could be. In spite of a few levels that feel too short and a few levels that have minor frustrations, it's about the ultimate all-ages 3D platformer. I haven't gotten to the back half of levels yet, but even the easy main campaign are such a fun and breezy time that I can't fault it.

Also, the final boss may have been a bit of a joke, but it was my first experience with a spectacle final boss back when I was 11 and played this on Wii U. At least one point is because of my nostalgia. And to think the absolute insanity of Super Mario Odyssey's "third act" would end up beating it.
