Amazing game. Exhilarating combat and exploration. Highly recommend it.

Basically if ff14 was like Diablo with cool loot but still kept its world and story it’d be 20x better.

Such a great game even today. Amazing art particularly on the portraits. Very unique style. animation is nice too.
One of the best combat systems in a jrpg period. A lot of jrpgs don’t even come close to the combat.
The dungeons were ok but some were very tedious to get through due to bad collision detection and latency when jumping. This is inherent to the game. Other than that ‘inor problem the game was great. Highly recommend it and it’s superior sequel.

a good game but it’s also really boring

Decent game for 1992. I enjoyed mixing and matching classes for battles. The UI was clunky but you get used to it. It was a breezy game to play and surprisingly addictive tactical rpg. Looking forward to playing the rest of the series eventually.

Absolutely stellar remake. Probably the best one I’ve played. Keeps everything that made the original good without over remaking it yet adds a lot of qol improvements on top. This is how remakes should be going forward.

Was decent. Really well made and polished and good fun traversal and combat.
Nothing groundbreaking though, story was good but found the open world stuff a bit average at times.
My biggest issue was the controls. Far too many moves and abilities. I still didn’t know what was mapped to what by the end of the game as there are like 40-50 moves, combos and abikities for each of the Spider-Mans.
Sometimes more isn’t better. I got a bit tired of the combat due to all the controls I toned it down to easier difficulty just to get through it at the end. The enemies that can shoot you were hella annoying too the controls didn’t really work well with ranged enemies.
Overall I still really liked it I just thought the combat was the weakest aspect. Everything else was great.

Was excellent. 👌
If you like Action JRPGs like Ys this will tick all boxes.
Holds up very well and the story is wholesome.
Great soundtrack and gameplay.
Maybe a little too padded could have done with being a chapter short perhaps but overall very enjoyable.

Was decent. Gameplay variety not as good as Dead Sapce games but otherwise as good. Better combat for sure. Visceral. Amazing graphics and sound design. It really wasn’t that bad? I found the levels in Dead Soace Remake very confusing even with the map. Too many doors and paths and confusing links to the rest of the ship.
This was a lot linear even though gameplay was more repetitive. Both as good as each other.

This was a decent game. Better than the first but I also had several problems with it, especially the combat.

Firstly the positives.
The game has good sense of exploration in that you are in these great looking worlds and traversal is extremely fun through them. Never feels tedious. Unlocking new abilities and exploring to see what’s hidden or going back to places is a joy. Controls are very tight and responsive outside battles and it feels like you have a massive world to explore in a Star Wars universe. They nailed its look and feel.

The atmosphere and setting really nail the Star Wars atmosphere. This is helped in no end by the excellent graphics, highly detailed areas, lighting and art and sound design. It’s top tier.

I have quite a few negatives with this game though.

Story - load of nonsense. The characters are very dull and uninteresting. You have this band of party that join or help you throughout the game and they simply are dull as hell to listen to. A lot of games have this problem lately. Too many cutscenes involving them too.
The actual main plot was pretty average too and I didn’t really care for any of the twists it often felt like a bad fan fiction of Star Wars. A lot of the time I didn’t even know why I was doing half of these objectives as they felt convoluted to get to the the bigger picture. There is a big twist in the story that happens but because the game doesn’t make you feel anything for anyone, or they’re just boring, I didn’t really think much of it.
Also the main character you play as Cal, has zero personality or charm and feels robotic. He plays and says everything in such a boring manner and is delivered in such a wooden way. I just didn’t care about him or his problems.

Combat - this is probably my biggest issue. This game does not know how to do good combat. By about halfway through the game I dialled it to easy as I found the combat more of a nuisance than being fun. I just wanted to explore the beautiful environments lol.
The encounters are spongey, virtually every enemy has a stamina bar that you need to deplete first before health goes down and this gets annoying fast.
The enemies have unblockable attacks but this seems really broken and janky. The window to dodge or move out of the way from these attacks is so tiny and almost impossible to avoid most of the time. The unblockable attack visual indicator lasts literally for one second (the enemy goes red). So if you’re in the middle of an attack animation fighting them you can forget dodging their unblockable. It will always hit you no matter what you do. This was one of the most annoying things with the combat and game in general. It ruined a lot of the combat.
Other issues with combat - there’s too many enemies a lot of the time in one fight and outside the camera view. And a lot of them are all doing these awful unblockable attacks and they all have stamina gauges. It was just too much as the combat wasn’t designed well to begin with.
I loved the force powers and how cool they looked but again they were hampered by the ridiculous amounts of spammy attacks from enemies and their unblockables. Most of the time if you tried to use any force power you’d get hit as there’s more of a delay using those so the window of opportunity is too small to figure out or care about due to the janky timings.
The character you control also felt too weightless in combat like I was moving him on strings like a puppet. The combat wasn’t satisfying or crunchy or has any weight to it. Collision detection on hits felt poor. It’s trying to be like Dark Souls combat but it’s anything but that. A lot of the time you get hit in combat and it feels unavoidable even when the hits are blockable or dodge able because of the jank and spammy enemies and attacks.
So I dialled the combat difficulty down just to be able to manage the ridiculous nature of it. I got tired of it not being fun.

Exploration was fun but the rewards from a lot of it felt lacking and poor. 90% of the collectibles are just cosmetic (and there are a LOT…probably 300 things to collect)
There were far too many of these and they made no difference. It’s hard to see the hilt or look of a lightsaber handle when it’s kinda always in front of you or it’s so small it goes unnoticed. Or BD robot sidekick changing his color or parts…wow such a good reward from exploring lol. This wasn’t a massive issue but I’m surprised it wasn’t addressed as the first game had this problem too.

I still enjoyed the game but overall it was hampered by its average combat and average story. The rest of it was great.

Absolutely brilliant game. Really enjoyed the last two chapters and the story they told and it had such a satisfying ending and conclusion with the true ending. stunninng soundtrack too

Very average game. Impossible difficulty. Money gobbler.
But had a great soundtrack and pixel art

I really enjoyed replaying this game 20+ years later. Didn’t realise how much of an influence HP Lovecraft was as I wasn’t aware of any of that back in the day lol. Loved the atmosphere and vibes and story. Holds up today in a genre that’s a bit stagnant with anime.
A horror jrpg is very unheard of and it just works.
Cool battle system and soundtrack and pretty challenging at times. The last boss is cheap and no pushover.

Was pretty good. Defintely enjoyed it more than I originally did on the ps1 version although I’m not sure why lol?
I liked the levelling up system and even the narrative was a massive improvement to ff1 and ff3.
Overall it was a decent game with a lovely redone soundtrack. Glad I replayed it like 20+ years later.

Could not get into it. Found it too cumbersome and dated with a bad camera and punishingly unfair difficulty and clunky combat. I didn’t have a problem with the controls they were fine as I love Kings Field and it controlled like that. It was just everything else? The confusing menus the lack of not really telling you anything about the mech parts and showing and real stats. menu is just too slow and tedious to figure out or get anything from in Garage and when equipping. The enemies do tons of damage and even after buying parts I still was none the wiser. I gave it a chance.
I might try the later games to see if they’ve improved.
