It's a fascinating mess for sure.

My mind boggles still at the perfectly reconstructed Delkfutt's tower level from Final Fantasy XI.

The music is outstanding but it's frustrating how often the battle music interrupts the meticulously composed throwback music. I literally kept checking the menu to see if you could turn it off.

The job system is deep but perhaps a bit over-designed. I loved using all the different skills but unfortunately didn't find the enemies interesting at all so I wasn't really compelled to experiment. Sage is pretty badass though.

The level design is just depressingly samey... I kept getting lost because it was impossible to differentiate the environments. The gameplay is repetitive as heck.

The story is wacky nonsense and it's ambition to build upon the lore of FF1 is wild... But its not enough to make the game compelling in and of itself.

I didn't enjoy a lot of this but it is a fascinating creation that I'm happy to have experienced.
