The story here is much better than base ARR. There is a genuinely interesting fantasy plot going on here with a whole bunch of bad-ass dragons, your classic lying-ass church (the only kind), and characters who actually have more going on than just being goody-two-shoes.

I found myself playing a Final Fantasy for mostly the story for the first time since I was 15 in 2001 with Final Fantasy X.

The gameplay is VERY simple. Half the quests are fast travel to person, talk to person, fast travel back to other person. The other 30% are do the same but fight an easy enemy. The dungeons and trials are the genuine meat here, performing your role while not getting murdered by AOE is engaging and stressful. When I forget to really pay attention and immerse myself in the story and lore, the "click-to-continue" gameplay of most of the quests can get tedious and repetitive. I found if I took the time to read slowly, listen to all the VA, and engage with the story and environments, I had a pretty darn good time.

These are my 3.0 content thoughts. On to the Dragonsong War content!
