Easily the greatest of the "souls-likes" made by any studio which isn't FromSoftware. The designers understood so deeply just how much these types of games rely on enemy variety, encounter design, and nuances in enemy attack animations to keep things interesting but still feel fair.

Then on top of that, several intriguing new game mechanics related to the combat are added in which help give the game its own mechanical identity.

Finally, the overall atmosphere is superb. Tons of variety in the environment design, giving a sense of a civilization cut down in its prime. I especially love the weight the game gives to your choices, and the final conversation with Arlecchino, that whole sequence sent a chill up my spine.
