I just wanted to peek inside the game by playing the translated ROM for a few minutes. I did not plan on finishing the game, but here we are. This game is currently about 29 years old and thus even older than me. Playing it in 2023 you will be shocked not only by the graphics (early days of 3D rendering), but by the controls even more. Luckily, I got used to both rather quickly and neither bothered me after the first hour or so. This is a very atmospheric game that lurks constantly between creepy and cozy. I highly recommend refraining from using a guide or walkthrough and instead keep playing as long as you make progress. I managed to do so for about the first 90% of the game and had a blast discovering this ancient world, its inhabitants and many secrets. It is amazing to see that From Software already used hidden doors this extensively in their very first game. Storywise, it is nothing special. You are the good guy that gets stronger on his journey to defeat the biggest evil around. This is the first King's Field game I have ever played and I am genuinely hyped to play the successor.
