2023 Throwbacks

Older games that I played for the first time this year and really liked. A complement to my "Stand-Out Games" list.

As I said about Chants of Sennaar in my GOTY list, I'm so glad to see more knowledge-based investigation games out there. Sadly I haven't had the mental capacity to attempt the DLCs yet, but that just gives me something to enjoy next year!
It took some modding work to get this game to fit my headspace, but once it clicked with me it was exactly what I needed at the time I played it.
Take this entry as covering both this game and its predecessor - very cool, very fun little JRPGs, introduced to me by the fantastic LP/fanfic Sympathy for Chisa Inomiko
Given my standard assumptions about fan mods, I always assumed this would be a bit edgy or overly hard for my tastes, but even besides all the cool new content the number of conveniences this adds to a Terraria playthrough is hard to ignore.
Not to say that I know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it - in a very positive way. Not to say my expectations were low, but this game is indeed fantastic.
