Hotline Miami 2 was a great idea, in theory, but making it a bigger game for the sake of it makes it feel hollow. Death comes rapidly, and rather cheaply, and rarely feels like “that was my mistake.” Its overall story is intriguing but fails to pull any weight. And unlike many other games of the same old school vein, HM2 feels unprepared for the spotlight. Let it stand as an example of a game with great style and poor design.
