dunno how to make a proper review about this game without making it a fucking labyrinth of a text so i'll just sum it up in pro, cons, and overall thoughts:
pros:
-It's a playable game. I know, it's incredible, we haven't had a playable game since omega ruby and shit. X/Y from onwards is unplayable trash.
-Refreshing gameplay, even tho it IS quite similar to mainline pokemon, and i know people will come and say BUT MUH AGILE AND STRONG STYLE, yeah yeah it's a cool mechanic but it doesn't change THAT much the gameplay overall. It's a neat future and that's it.
-There was more than one character that was interesting in this game and i was genuinely surprised by it. Some of them even said coherent things
Cons:
-Who THE FUCK thought omitting Tyranitar would be a good idea.
-It's graphically a mess. It looks ugly, it's a fucking mess everywhere.
-This is kinda related to what i mentioned before but i'll make another point because it's really fucking important. Lightning is absolutely FUCKED and, in some places, lightning will come and go without you knowing it. I hope it doesn't cause problems for people with epilepsy or similar stuff (i don't think it does but who am i to say)
-Too much dialogue for being a fucking pokemon game, jesus christ shut the fuck UP already and LET ME PLAY THE FUCKING GAME
-2 hour tutorial for a game series everyone knows since 1990 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL at least give me the option to skip it
Overall: I think you need to look at this game in 2 ways, one is as an individual game and the other one is as a Pokemon game. As an individual game it's a mess; it has a shit ton of problems that can be easily fixed with a bit of work and polishing. As a pokemon game it's a REALLY huge improvement over what we had in this last...10~years? can't remember when it was that X/Y came out.
Overall decent game. It is NOT a bad game, but it is NOT an amazing/very good game. It's just ok, but it's ok that it's ok, this is the first step in the right direction. I hope they keep this as their base and improve it over time. It doesn't necessarily have to be in the next game, if they do this again in the next 2 games and do it better i'll consider pokemon a real franchise again. For now it's ok, i hope they improve, they're on the right track.
