A mainline title released in the vein of Lulua. Lulua was a pretty big letdown for me, one of the biggest since the PS3 era began. Sophie doesn't disappoint me like that at all...there's simply a very conspicuous downgrade in effort compared to the other true mainline titles like Lydie & Suelle and Ryza 2, like it was purposefully downscaled from those. I don't mind that, and with that in mind the game is excellent for its scale. Comfortably middle of the pack in the series for me.

Great open world romp with a lot of jank. The worldbuilding is also a step above the previous entry imo. However, the lategame is REALLY tedious and the plot kind of whimpers annoyingly. Not particularly looking forward to a sequel but I'll play it I guess.

Definitely credit for being an actual open world game.

Basically a perfect game that highlights the strengths of the series' other entries. It's held back by how simplistic the turn-based combat is, but I expect them to improve it a lot in future iterations.

Thought I had a lot of fun with the first game, now I see how pitifully it falls short compared to this. This game has so much and improves on every single aspect from progression, fairness of secrets, openness, build variety...wish I had skipped the first game so I wouldn't burn out so quickly. Very solid blobber. The difficulty curve is extremely rough on the serious settings.

Random note, playing without map on this one is a lot more comfortable compared to the first game since there's real scenery. Very immersive. Such a good blob.

I'd feel mean to the devs to give it a 3.5 instead of 4. I rate it 3.5 for total enjoyment from start to finish and 4 for the idea and effort. It's a really great modern take on blobs, but the tedious wall buttons and strafing really give you a "yeah, yeah, I get it" feeling around the 7th floor.

The game doesn't throw very interesting puzzles your way later on compared to what you've seen and the locations are VERY tiring, being on continuous dungeon sometimes with slightly different wall textures.

On that note, it's a great blob. The second game made me realize how plain the puzzles get in this one since its puzzles remain outstanding (and frustrating to no end). Laid the groundwork for a freaking awesome Legend of Grimrock 2, but I'm not sure it's worth playing past the first half because of that.
