I spent more time on this game in 3 and a half weeks than I did on Breath of the Wild in 4 years.

Which is pretty weird when this game is basically just Breath of the Wild 2.0 and I didn't get as hooked on that game, and I find them both to be on the same level as quality. And I think what makes me like this one more is the higher amount of agency the player gets with the new abilities.

The Ultrahand is hands down my favorite ability across both games as it not only lets me play Zelda Lego, but it and Recall also makes for shrines that are way more fun and don't feel repetitive. Fuse makes for fun weapon building, Ascend isn’t something that you really can play around with, but it’s a lifesaver when you want to scale something fast.

The new level design, the small amount that was made at least, also exceeds what BOTW did, where the shrines, as mentioned, have been greatly improved with better puzzles and it motivated me to look for them because I wanted to play them, not because I wanted an easy travel spot. And the temples and bosses get a chance to be better fleshed out in their new ideas and are some of my favorites across the series. Oh, and it’s also way more fun to be shot out of a tower into the air than simply jumping from a tower when you want to travel long distances. It also lets you explore areas in the sky which are also well designed.

And while I prefer BOTW's story for its ambience and the direction that was taken there, this one still is a good one, even if it feels lighter than what came before. The “memory” cutscenes are integrated better into the story, and hey, this game has Ganondorf, who is epic in spite of his limited screen time.

As for negatives that aren’t in BOTW, I do not care for The Depths. I never really found myself wanting to explore there. Do I go missing on useful optional things? Yes, but I couldn’t bring myself to find it either. Speaking of The Depths, the part before the final boss just felt like padding . Maybe it’s because I was used to BOTW allowing you to finish whenever you want, but I was waiting for the game to start wrapping up.

And with that said, I am just as pleased with this game as I was with BOTW. It wasn't a ground-breaking game for me or anything, but I would still say that it's pretty close. And as Zelda is a series that's known for greatly mixing up its formula, I'm more curious than ever as to where they are gonna go from here.
