In all honesty, a 2 1/2 rating might seem a bit generous for this game, but I can't help but feel oddly mixed about Fallout 76.

To keep it simple, Fallout 76 still has a lot of the usual issues you'd expect from a Bethesda game, but credit is due for the attempts to fix what was absurdly broken upon the initial release of the game. In addition to bugs, general performance is all over the place, with weird framerate drops and spikes at sometimes predictable, sometimes confusing moments.

While the general functionality of Fallout 76 has remained mostly the same, Wastelanders has done a lot to bring the overall experience some rejuvenation, which is nice, yet should've been in the game on day one, not several years later.

As is typical in modern Fallout, there's a lot of issues with performance, visuals, stability, and general states of boredom that sit in throughout playing, yet they're juxtaposed with some pretty great quests from time to time; it's not often, but the good stuff in this game is really great.

The biggest issue I encountered while playing 76 was that I fell victim to a progression-halting glitch that made it so I couldn't complete a particular quest. I played the game for weeks, working around this quest as much as I could, and when it was finally fixed so that I could go through the main story again, I didn't have the motivation to continue.

I guess it's good I played this on Game Pass (PC) and didn't shell out any money for direct ownership of the game. Fallout 76 certainly has its draws and I can certainly see the appeal (it had me gripped for a little while despite its glaring problems), but I can't stay invested in it, especially with my "over-playing" of it over the past while.

Also, Fallout 1st is extremely stupid for the most part, but you can easily cheese the system (at least through Microsoft's client) by purchasing Fallout 1st, then canceling after you grab the costumes, atoms, and chucking what you need to into the scrap box, then refunding it. You get to keep the atoms, current scrap in the box, and the attire purchased with the subscription. Don't tell Bethesda.

Definitely a sale-price game, or play it via Game Pass.
