Monster Hunter is great, and there hasn't been a single bad one. I will not debate this, this is an inarguable truth revealed to me in a dream.
MH3U is the quintessential Monster Hunter game to me. It has the old-school jank mixed with the early roots of the convenience that would fully envelop newer games. It has a great story told through dinky textboxes and fantastic boss monsters with intricate mating behavior. It even has the one-time gimmick that is pretty divisive on release but them grows on you as newer games drop it.

Monster Hunter World is the AAA Steroid Junkie of the Franchise. All the characteristics of the series are there, but injected with a level of polish, quality and cinema that makes this a game that WANTS, BEGS you to get into Monster Hunter.

Monster Hunter Rise iterates on the series with the fastest combat yet, truly centering the gameplay on the player. This makes it extremely approachable, but robs the other main component of the game, the Monsters, of some of their impact - they are there to be hunted, not to fight for their lives.
Ultimately though, this is still gamerized heroin, so I'm good either way.
