This will always hold a special place in my heart as one of the first video games I've played.

Do yourself a favor and play it on the 3DS lmao.

When I look at the amount of work that went into RE2 remake, and the impressive work being put into RE4 remake, I look at this game and wonder why the hell is it the odd one out? Seriously, given the time they're taking on RE4 remake, the fact that this game came out just a year after RE2 remake is a huge red flag. It's obvious this game was more rushed than the other remakes, evident that this game apparently had a different developmental team than RE2 and RE4.

When I look at this game compared to the original, it's astonishing just how much of the original is cut out from this remake. The build up to Nemesis, exploring every corner of the city, the clock tower - which the small moment they included of it no doubt pissed off every fan of the original. And to really hammer home the rush job is the fact that they included another sewer section and the not so cleverly named NEST-2 (really?), despite the sections in RE2 providing more than enough.

There's also something to be said about how Nemesis in his game just, doesn't feel like Nemesis. He goes down to a single grenade, only stalks you in one specific part of the game, and after that he just transforms into an animal like form that just doesn't feel intimidating. None of these aspects should ever be put in a game attempting to "remake" the original, there's a lot of missed opportunities to make this game surpass the brilliance of RE2 remake.

With all that said, as a stand alone Resident Evil title it's not bad. The story and characterization is amazing, I'm actually quite a fan of Jill and Carlos's redesigns, and I don't care what anyone says, the final confrontation with Nemesis with Jill carrying a giant rail gun she has no reason lifting is badass and the exact kind of camp I want to see in RE.

The gameplay is pretty fine too, pretty much what you expect from an RE title, which is why I feel it stands fine on its own. But one last complaint: the lack of puzzles in this game is downright laughable.

This game has a lot of problems, but the biggest one is that it takes place in France.
