god, what a wack ass game this game is. even a year after deep diving into this mess for above video purposes, i still don't know what to make of it.
i've never been a big FF fan - and this is one of the only mainline entries i've ever beaten. i think the entire reason for that boils down to the combat system - gambits and license stuff go together insanely well, and it's easy to come up with interesting strategies even if the roles you have are fairly limited. and even though you're auto-battling with gambits for most of the game (unless you're some kind of sicko), it never feels like you're just twiddling your thumbs waiting for enemies to die. you're still engaged - like you still have to determine when to come up with new strategies or edit gambits on the fly. it's not worth doing any of the big superbosses but it's easily my favorite battle system of a FF game.

the story is just 90% finding useless magic macguffins, even though the game's dialogue is pretty rich and deep. but half of your party is completely useless story-wise, although balthier and fran are both INSANELY hot and make up for it. music is forgettable, there are a lot of locales i really hate (especially in the back half of the game)... honestly my thoughts over this one are still so jumbled that idk how i can put them all together. it's not a bad game though. idk i'm drunk just go watch my youtube video :)
