lol hell yeah. my first RPG was futzing around on my sister's copy of Pokemon Red (original gameboy, not Fire Red) before i really knew how to read, then the first one to hook me was Paper Mario TTYD.

@Yuzrnaime Hazelnut Hex is a great one. many recent indie STG think they'll be the one to "finally" hit the sweet spot between being approachable for new players while also appealing to gristled oldheads but Hazelnut Hex actually does it

Pocky & Rocky 2's is pretty egregious. it is skippable but it's easy to enter by accident and is 8 minutes long MINIMUM after that, all to explain things like "pressing the D pad UP moves you UP. try moving UP!"

Ape Escape is the only 3D platform series with 0 clunkers every single game rocks so hard

@moschidae i mean, the concept of an idol-themed bullet hell game has a lot of potential... big personalities with big music and big attack patterns, right? but somehow it just doesn't quite get there
