This review contains spoilers

Peak Ace Attorney, even if some cases drag a touch at some point.

The game begins immediately by not fucking around and starting off with an assassination attempt on the President. It introduces new mechanics like Logic Chess, where Edgeworth takes his foes into the Chess Dimension to get them to admit to their bullshit. All the while you're unknowingly taking your first steps into a massive massive conspiracy, and Knightly is a fun culprit. It's a great first case.

The second case, probably the weakest in the game, is still really good. Your victim is surprise, Kinghtly, and you defend his best friend, Simon Keyes. In case you wondered about the lives of the criminals, this one shows it off in a pretty funny way with Frank Sawhit, the first culprit, returns! It also shows more of the investigation features like Kay's Little Helper and a new video version that's mainly just used in this case where you can spot tiny errors in video footage. It's neat, but could have been utilized better. Dogen is a great new character, and the culprit, Patricia Rolland, is just okay. Finding her guilt goes on a little too long for Case 2 but nothing Ambassador Alba bad. All in all, it's fine. On the bright side, it also instroduces Justine and the best prosecutor, Debeste, who is without a doubt the best. He provides some great comedic relief and easy moments.

Case 3 is easily the longest case in the game, but it's justified in that it's the longest case story-wise in the series, taking place over the span of 18 years. You begin in a very neat flashback where you play as Edgeworth's father for quite a while, investigating the case while dealing with Prosecutor Von Karma. It's funny, despite being a great evil, the fact that the man says his wife's cooking is the best in the world always sticks with me, it shows that this monster is still a human. In any case, it really goes on for a while and outside being Gregory it doesn't really get that great until the Edgeworth gang return and the true culprit, Gustavio, is exposed, and thanks to the old statute of limitations laws he almost would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those pesky prosecutors and his thief assistant. It also reveals the true cause of Von Karma's penalty that ultimately lead to Gregory's demise.

Case 4 sees a full dive into where the game's story truly begins. It starts with Kay becoming a much better character by falling off a building or being knocked out at a lake or something and getting amnesia. Yeah I think Kay is better when she's not Kay. Anyways, even better news, Best Girl Ema returns! We get to do a little luminoil stuff. In any case, to cut to the chase, the culprit reveal is fantastic, as it causes Edgeworth, Justine, and Debeste to all question their reasons for doing what they do. It hits Edgeworth so hard he turns in his prosecution badge. Edgeworth's main journey is exploring why he is a prosecutor. After all, it was an influence put on him heavily by Von Karma, and as ol' Uncle Ray mentions, his father was a defense attorney and THAT MAN (why are we not allowed to mention it it's so silly whenever it comes up) changed his life, so why not follow in their footsteps? Meanwhile Debeste only wanted to make his father proud, but turns out his father couldn't give a single shit about him and realized the hard truth of him NOT being Debeste and that he was outright cheated into his position by his father. This is a really great way to shatter his delusions and just goes into how hard Blaise follows this philosophy that you can just create a truth. Justine's views on everything the council deciding on being Justice because the council too is prone to and can even be run by corrupt humans. It hits all the core cast that matter in excellent ways.

Case 5 is the conclusion and the full conspiracy shining through: However I'm also really glad we get to see Penny Nichols again she's really cute and underrated. Even if she was only put in by the devs as a joke about how forgettable she was, I never forgot her...anyways! The Moozilla stuff goes on for a bit long, but what hits just right is the beginning of everything, the conspiracy unraveled. Oh yeah Lang is in this game I forgot about that he's barely in it. Anyways: The victim of the cooking case, HP, locked two young boys, a young Knightly and Simon in a car to keep one of them from letting Gustavio who lacked taste from having his taste tester around. The boys were put into an orphanage since one father was dead and the other fled the scene forever. At the Orphanage, the real President was murdered by the fake President. He was killed by the fake and a huge conspiracy was set up with the assassin Dogen being used to kill the real president while orphanage runner Patricia Rolland and Blaise Debeste arranged a fake murder scene. Unfortunately a young Simon saw the murder scene and all this lead to him to being raised by Dogen. All the while Simon was plotting revenge and set up Knightly to attempt to assassinate the fake president, have him fail, you defend Simon to play right into his hands and get back at Patricia. Then he arranged for Blaise to meet with someone who had condemning evidence on the 4th case and get them killed (and did something with Kay to draw Edgeworth in) and planned on exposing the President but the President had a gun so Simon had to land a hot air balloon on him out of defense. Jesus. Goddamn

So yeah that's Ace Attorney Investigations 2, probably the best game in the series. I know this review was long but bro I just wanted to recap this magnificent game.
