The game that started a whole new genre of its own, Demon's Souls is one of the most influential games of its generation despite some flaws and shortcomings in its gameplay and design that instead of hurting the game, add to the charm and to the brutal challenge that the game is.

The setting and atmosphere are masterfully done, giving a sense of mysteriousness throughout the whole game and paving the way for future From Software games. Combat is brutally challenging with the game giving some hope of recovering any lost souls upon death but punishing the player if they are not recovered in one attempt after death. Physics can become really annoying when trying to navigate through tight-level segments or vertically but add to the frustrating challenge "charm" of the game. Certain boss fights and levels are memorable and the dark/light system added an interesting take on the game and consequences based in your actions.
