Sir_nutalot completed Onee Chanbara Origin
Alright...OneeChanbara Origin, I like it. I like hack and slash games, although I'm not very good at them, and I think this game holds up pretty well. It's a little clunky, but it feels good, and there is something to be had depth wise. There's parry and dodge mechanics that feel good to execute, especially with the sounds, effects, and camera zooms when you perform one of the actions perfectly. And if you time your attacks right, they get faster and do more damage, which also feels nice. You can time your dodges and jumps with your attacks to achieve something akin to dodge offset from Bayonetta. I haven't screwed around enough in the lab to know about how much combo potential there is, but there is some. The playable characters have sort of a devil trigger, though it isn't activated with a button press. There's a second level to it, and both forms make the characters feel a lot more powerful. With these mechanics, you are tasked with slaying the myriad of zombies that lie before you, sort of like a Musou game. I think the boss fights have the most fun to be had though. I think the animations are great, specifically with a couple of cutscenes and finishers. Decent story and good voice acting. I played with the dub, so what they said didn't quite match up with the lip syncing, but I enjoyed the voice actors performances nonetheless. The graphics and presentation are good, and I love the character designs. Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot and I'd give it a 7.5/10. I do plan to do separate playthroughs sometime, and I do recommend the game. Also, looping that powerbomb finisher with Saki is hilarious.
