Yeah, I love this game now. I've thought it was better than DS3 on a conceptual level for a while, but now I just think it's better entirely. It's got its flaws, but at this point, I really just don't care. This game has so much heart pouring out at every turn that I can't help but admire it. If you like this game, you're hot.

Personally, I think DS2 is bad. But your review and many others speak to something FromSoft did with this game that they largely abandoned going forward: they took risks. Demon's was filled with counterintuitive/ risky design decisions that ultimately paid off. DS1, DS3, BB, and ER are very safe in comparison. Conversely, DS2 took many risks with its design. I happen to think basically none of them paid off, but they do imbue the game with some kind of charm / heart. Hard to say that about DS3 (for example) when all of the essentials of design are taken directly from predecessors.
