I'm amazed that Sony never did more with Primal. Then again, this game seems like it cost a fortune to make only to fade into relative obscurity. Which is a real shame because it totally slaps! C'mon Sony! This one's ripe for the remake treatment!

Gameplay-wise it's an absolute chore. 4 unique fighting styles and every one of them feels rubbish to play. Each successful hit that you land feels like it happened by pure chance. But the worldbuilding and art direction is some of the most ambitious to come out of the PS2 era imo. Amazing music too!

Jen and Scree are such a good buddy-team! They have such a well developed relationship. Hudson Leick and Andreas Katsulas both give such endearing performances that work so well together! The writing is very...Whedon-esque. But hey, it was the early 2000's. Everything seemed influenced by that terrible man back then.

Falls into the typical video game problem of being far too long, and the amount of enemies thrown at you in the last few hours is a joke considering how janky the combat is. At the same time I'm struggling to think of what section I would possibly cut. Every single one has its own merits and cool gimmicks.

Haha just kidding I'd cut that underwater section in a heartbeat.

absolute banger. gameplay was a bit dodgy tho.

I'd just like to thank Backloggd for allowing me to find this game again. For YEARS now, i've had this vague memory of a PS2 game that I grew up with and enjoyed, but just couldn't remember enough details to put a name to it.

While setting up my account here I finally found and remembered this childhood classic of mine.

Throughout my journey through Oblivion, there was a consistent thought: This game is ripe for a remake. Primal has so much potential with a solid story and characters and gorgeous visuals, but the glue that keeps this game together falls apart by being some of the most rigid combat and exploration mechanics I've played.

Maybe one of these days Sony will tap into their potential IPs in need of a remake, and I think the adventures of Jen and Scree should be up on that list.
