Just an elder millennial cataloging the games I've played throughout the last 30+ years for my son's, nephews' and niece's future reference (which should make think twice about logging certain games, but as Squall Leonhart would masterfully say, whatever.).
Oh, I also have a YouTube channel with bass tabs for classic tunes. Go check it out!

Even back in the day, I never really enjoyed games where being considered skilled at them actually meant that you discovered some cheesy ass "strategy" to beat the incredibly unfair AI, sometimes dealing with purposefully janky controls on top of that.
Pit Fighter is definitely one of those games and yeah, I know it was supposed to be a quarter-muncher and it also predates all of the more sophisticated fighting games from that era, but as I said, incredibly unfair games where never really my jam.
Despite all that, I don't think the game is that bad. Maybe it's my nostagia for corny games from the late '80s/early '90s talking, but in my opinion Pit Fighter is a classic for a good reason and if Atari had dropped a sequel a couple of years after this one with tweaked controls and fairer AI, it could've become a decent franchise.

You can clearly feel that this game was made by and for D&D fans.
Instead of the overused orcs as the standard enemies, the developers chose the underappreciated gnolls, which is nice. You also must use fire to deliver the final blow on trolls, otherwise they'll regenerate exactly like in the TTRPG, which is very neat.
It's a shame that this game got kinda lost in the sands of time, because it's a great D&D licensed game and one helluva beat 'em up that must've been so fun to play on the arcade with three other people, like a true D&D party!
