A triumphant return from dormancy, following a relatively unsuccessful attempt at a reboot with 2009's Wolfenstein. Gameplay is truly fun, with clean gunplay using fantastic weapon designs. Being able to dual wield anything you want is a power move, as is being given the choice of forgoing guns blazing action for completely stealthing a room. The story provides a clear, gradual goal of taking the world back from the Nazi regime and crippling it in various missions across an alternate future where World War II was won by Germany.

The story serves as a great motivator for trudging through the game's most difficult sections. Voice acting and cutscenes in general do a great job of engrossing you into the game's world. Enemy A.I is a little shoddy, but was surprisingly intelligent at times. A few situations felt frustrating and difficult to win, leaving little left to skill and moreso to sheer luck, bordering on softlock territory unless you restarted to a checkpoint.

As a general precursor to Doom 2016, Wolfenstein The New Order is a great game with a few flaws here and there. It's an immersive relatively challenging game, mostly in a genuinely fun way.

Played via the OpenGOAL PC port. For all intents and purposes, this is a recreation of the PS2 version recreated for PC played in ultrawide using a Dualsense controller.

A good time that immediately drew me in and tricked me into getting about 25 power cells before taking any sort of break. The first two thirds are great, the last third sorta just drags on but it still some decent platforming fun. Presentation is great, traveling through the world is impressively seamless. The music is typically ambient and works very well, with some more intensive drum and bass tracks for combat encounters. The combat itself is unfortunately shallow and grows old in areas like Snowy Mountain and Spider Cave. The hub worlds and their characters are fun to interact with, though they feel pretty empty once you truly get everything they have to offer. Voicework and character animations are truly something to behold and stand up great, even today.
