Amazing game! I really enjoyed my time with the great cast of characters that the game presents to you as a player, each one being pretty unique and with a pretty well-developed background and social link in which there are themes of identity and acceptance of oneself. This is complemented by the pretty charming and detailed art direction and soundtrack. My main problem relies mostly on the dungeon design, which can (and will) get pretty boring after a while, with the saving grace being the aftermentioned music and art direction. But even with that, the combat system is still pretty solid, which helps improve the dungeon design somewhat. In all, I really recommend this game if you want a long-term experience.
You can really see the roots of what would become the future of the franchise, especially when realizing the limits it was created on. But the problem lies in the fact that the game itself is a product of its time, with really annoying and uncomprehensible puzzles or zones in which it's straight up better to ignore every single enemy and just run from room to room, hoping you find the item that you need. Naturally, using the codex for calls is the best help you are going to get, but even then, it's really unclear when to make calls or where you are supposed to ask for advice. And after a few minutes the game becomes this loop of repetition in which you pray that you advance in some capacity. Still, I enjoy looking back and exploring the foundations of an amazing franchise. It's just that a lot of aspects got stuck in 1987.
