I started playing Valorant early on into my second year of University (September 2022) with a squad of my best friend and our girlfriends. Before this I had been a big Overwatch player on Xbox. This game helped take so much stress off me during my terms (Engineering), and it was something we all looked forward to every night. That is why it will always have a special place in my heart. My typical ranking system doesn't really work as much for multiplayer games, but I will do it anyways.

Story: 7/10. You can't really blame riot for this one, but I am greatly suprised with the lore they were able to come up with for an FPS. I love the idea of Alpha and Omega earths that accurately explains how there can be one agent on each team. There isn't really so much a chronological storyline as there is an established universe, but it's been done so well that I have to give it a good rating.

Characters: 8/10. Each Agent is uniquely crafted to have their abilities reflect a bit of their personality (note: this review was created with the release of Deadlock). I admire how much work Riot puts into their cinematics, as they try their best to incorperate each agent into them.

Combat: 9.5/10. The star of the show, Valorant's combat is easily the best part of the game. I am a big fan of their credits system and how each weapon is uniquely crafted. It feels fair and balanced (which I cannot say for Overwatch) due to Riot wanting the majority of the abilities to not be able to fully kill enemies; that is, how good you play really depends on your aim and gamesense. That is not to say that abilities aren't important, as they are part of what makes the game unique and fun.

Gameplay / Content: 8.5/10. The gameplay loop in Valorant is perfect for a group of people. There is just enough down time in between each round (and game) to socialize, so that it never feels too draining (Whereas in Overwatch, it feels like you don't have a break in between games). Riot also regularily gives content updates, so the game never gets too stale. I am a sucker for the overpriced skins and have (and still will) probably spent/spend far too much on the game.

World: 8/10. Each map feels special in their own way and have their own gimmicks. They also somewhat incorperate into the story of the game, and can add lore to characters. My favorite maps are Ascent and Bind, while my least favorite maps are Pearl and Fracture.

Traversal: N/A. I do enjoy how cautious you have to be between walking and running, as well as crouching. The semi slow movement makes playing agents like Neon super exhilerating.

Problems: Smurfing and Toxicity are definitley an issue in Valorant, but Riot tries to minimize them.

Favorite Part: Getting an Ace.
Least Favorite Part: Getting Shat on by a Smurf in Ranked.
